Inconsistent double-jump height?

I'm trying to get the coin in 5-1.5 and for some reason, sometimes my double-jump from the right spring reaches the coin and sometimes I barely get any extra height. I don't believe I'm doing anything different between attempts, is there something I'm not noticing, or is there actually a mechanic to this?

Hi. Yeah, that's a very hard coin to get! Just like jump height is variable based on how long you hold your jump key, jump height off of a spring is also variable based on how long you hold your jump key.

IIRC, you need to re-press and hold jump as you're on the spring: so jump into the spring pit, release jump, and re-press + hold as you're springing off for that extra height. Hope that helps!
