This can be anything. even the chair in the bedroom. Or explosive cans, though they damage your vehicle a little if you burn them. Everything is "fuel".
Keep your eyes open for whatever objects you find, and take it with you. You might need it urgently later on. So stopping your vehicle with the emergency brake and collect items along the way is important. Later on you wil lget a device to auto-collect up to 3 items at once (you have to stow them regularly away).
Keep in mind, as long as the path is plain flat, you can also pull your vehicle with the hooks. So without wind (if you have the sails later on) or energy left, you can still drag it further by human strength until you find something. Be creative when it comes to travelling further on if necessary.
Yes, it is theoretically possible to get stuck without energy, as there are no wind areas or slopes you cannot drag your vehicle over, but if this happens, and you do not find any burnable item by walking forward or backtracking by foot, you did something wrong, something very very wrong in this game by ignoring a lot of items along the way ;)
I was, to be fair, not expecting a "survival" type mode game. :-) Hence was a bit confused.
I research for and wishlist loads of games that look beautiful or evoke connection or just relaxation, and then buy and play them often months later. At my age, the reason I got a game has sometimes escaped me by the time I get around to playing it. The day job keeps me very busy sometimes. I dig the joy of discovering a game like a random garage sale find.
FAR is definitely a good random find. Almost cathartic now crushing things I find into the machine, was that the aim I wonder.
The game is meant to be a enjoyable journey without any haste for casual gamers. You have enough time to look around, do some easy puzzles, collect and stow your stuff, make the machine running and enjoy the ride. There is plenty of fuel around if you take your time.
If you want more action, you can go for the 99 minute speedrun Steam achievement. I did it on my second playthrough in about 83 minutes. It is mandatory that you harmonize in making your vehicle run at full speed without crashing (use engines and sails at the same time for top speed). Use the auto-collecting device to get enough fuel and try to avoid unnecessary stops. It sounds stressful, but surprisingly it was a totally different game experience and a lot of fun working with the machine to its full potential
If you liked this game, the sequel to Far was released recently (Far: Changing Tides). Personally I disliked some things about the sailing mechanics, but now your vehicle can dive, which is great, and you will find the same easy going exploration type of atmosphere.
