I know what you meant, just wanted to be specific.
I think the remake "The second evolution" for PSP was way more polished than "The Second Story" for PSX. If it comes to Steam, i hope it's the remake.
I tried SO4 and it felt great. After being stuck on the third boss I thought I first try other games, now when I know the background story and lore better, then go back to grinding in 4. Unfortunately SO2 seems like unnecessary filler (most part of SO1 were like that too, but at least there was a goal and interesting moments, especially the last part of it).
As for the rest of your post, well lets just say I disagree entirely. I've been playing JRPG's since the early 90's and I still believe that Star Ocean 2 is one of the best out of the countless I've played. I'd also say it's by far the best of the Star Ocean series.
