I only see the homage. It looks more like Oniken and Odallus than a straight lift of Hard Corps. The character design takes after Deunan and Briarios which Hard Corps also channels. Not to mention Briarios and Probotector = Doyle
Blazing Chrome is very consistent with the developer style, which pays heavy tribute to several classics. I don't see anything "too similar" , anything in the vein of ripping off, or heavy lifts.
Here's to me laughing at you. You are no true contra fan, if you think one of the best games in the series is 'laughable'. Are you sure it's not just because you don't like the DS or something?
In my opinion "Hard Corps" is the best contra :D
I certainly am looking forward to give this game a shot :)
Hard Corps rocks.
Shattered Soldier is close second.
And I never understood Alien Wars love, it's clunky and top down levels are terrible. It's still great game, but Hard Corps is way faster, way more responsive, more explosive, more diverse, it's a swan song of Contra. It was made by the same devs as an ultimate Contra game that only Genesis hardware would allow (as CPU was way faster in Genesis and Yamaha chip could produce proper techno music). It's just an improvement in everything, and unlike AW - it doesn't age.
Hard Corps is one of my favourate Contras but I agree that it went away from it's roots. Having multiple endings and paths was innovative and nice. I actually liked that. Gave the game more replayability. However Contra started to stray with Contra 3 imo.
Contra, Super Contra and Operation C all followed a simple format: Run n gun through somewhat randomly appearing enemies and fight a boss at the end.
Hard Corps had multiple bosses in each lvl and not enough simple enemies to run n gun through (except the first lvl). Most of the game felt like a boss rush and that's what I didn't like.
The gameplay was awesome, artstyle was cool, boss designs were awesome as well and adding multiple paths/endings was pretty kick donkey but cmn, Contra shouldn't be about boss rushes.
Hard Corps would still be in my top 3 tho: 1. Contra 2. Super Contra and 3. Contra: Hard Corps
Would be awesome to get Contra 4, Rebirth and Hard Corps: Uprising on Steam as well.
Ye I agree with that. Hard Corps is hyped by some people. But I found it more flashy than actual substance. It has so much stuff that can be cut away.
This game looks a lot like Alien Wars/Probotector which is may fav anyway, so I'm fully on board.
The solution would be to add some actual bits of level with level design between the boss fights. That's basically the only thing missing from Hard Corps.
