AFTERBURN

Button for barrel roll
I kinda wish there was the ability to map a keyboard button for barrel roll, instead of the weird combination mechanic of afterburner and turning options. Enjoying the game in general, but that part just loses me after a while, for some reason. Can't say why it's offputting for me, maybe just feels too console-ish, and reminds me of many bad console to PC ports I've played over the years? You can usually tell when a game was built for a gamepad/joystick and the keyboard/mouse controls feel like an afterthought.

Hmm, maybe because sometimes it doesn't work (due to the steering deadzone) ?

That could be the case, it just ends up feeling like a left-hand button mashing exercise - I tend to use the tap option for better consistency, but end up having to double-tap a lot if I'm maintaining higher speed.

It would be great if maybe something like "Q" and "E" were able to be mapped as left and right barrel rolls, respectively.

Morfeo, ok then, where is the adjustment to minimize the deadzone when using a mouse and keyboard so those using a m&k setup can barrel roll when they intend too (if in fact there is nothing wrong with the k&m implementation for the barrel roll game mechanic)?

Also, why can I sometimes perform a barrel roll even when the afterburners aren't lit? Was thinking that maybe it was strictly speed dependent (barrel rolls will only occur when the a/c is within a certain speed range) but that doesn't seem to be the case either).

So like the OP says, why does this wonky k & m control scheme sometimes work and sometimes not? Are you saying it's the dead zone of my mouse????? that is preventing me from performing a barrel roll even though I am making the exact same key and mouse activations when it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't?

Or are you saying that when using the 'a' and 'd' keys for directional control and attempting to do a barrel roll that the deadzone on my keyboard keys (never heard of such a thing) is too large????

Exactly what is it that I'm not understanding here? What deadzone are you speaking of when a keyboard and mouse are being used?

Are you saying that if you are already in a bank and press a directional key or move your mouse and hit the rmb or w key to barrel roll that it won't work unless you first return your aircraft to straight and level flight?

To barrel roll you need to steer left/right AND press the thrust button.

Now, look at the cursor in-game, when you see 2 arrows around it, you can barrell roll.

The "deadzone" I was talking about is how far you have to move the cursor left/right before those arrows show up.

Well alright then, that makes sense. Was familiar with the control assignments dbl input, and could never settle on a specific choice (rmb + 'a' 'd' or 'w' with mouse movement) as neither seemed to make sense. Guess I'm a target-focused kind of player and just didn't pay close attention to the cursor to see/recognize the cues.

I'm headed out to test. Thanks for the reply. I'll remove my facepalm above for it. :steamhappy:
