How Do I save Progress??

So I am new to Steam (let me say that again - NEW to STEAM)

I Love ThrillVille Off The Rails which I played on the Xbox YEARS ago....

My husband bought a PC version off Amazon for my laptop which did not work, so I found the Steam version -

He downloaded it (which took forever) and I played it with success!

My 8 year old daughter and I played it together for HOURS and loved it. It worked great, we both had fun.

Even after my daughter stopped, I kept playing for a couple more hours til the wee hours of the night...

But when I closed the game, and wanted to go back into it to check one last thing....it started me at the very beginning.....

I wanted to scream!! Everything I did was gone.....

So I tried contacting Steam support .....and they said (essentially) 'Contact LucasArts......'

So....Is there a way to SAVE MY PROGRESS???

Because I thought it would save it automatically....and apparently I am wrong about that...

If there is a way to save my progress - PLEASE someone tell me...

If not...I will have to cry and ask for a refund, which - I don't want to do...

Help Please !!

there is a save option in the pause menu before you exit to main menu.
