The following tool will purge the application (your settings and layout will be preserved).
**IMPORTANT** Please save any open documents/work and close out all of your applications including browsers. Your PC may restart after running this .bat file.
Please follow this link:
http://sd.stardock.com/zubaz/apps/Purge_Fences.bat
Save the file to your desktop, right click it and select "Run as Administrator" if you're on Vista/7/8/8.1/10
http://screencast.com/t/Zv5LzdG8W8
If you are running Windows 8/10, you may be notified that Windows is protecting your PC. Select "More info" and then "Run anyway".
Reboot the computer and reinstall the application.
For Stardock Direct Purchases:
Note: It is important to get the most recent version of the application. For getting your product and key, please see the following:
http://www.stardock.com/support/productkeyretrieval
For Steam Purchases:
Install from Steam and Steam only.
Please DO NOT change any of the default settings until you verify that the application is running as expected in its default state.
Restoring a prior Fences Snapshot:
Its IMPORTANT to ensure, after the purge and reinstall, that Fences is working as it should be. Please create a few new Fences manually, drag icons to them, make sure that your issue is indeed gone.
If Fences is indeed working as expected, please try restoring a previous snapshot:
-Right click on the desktop and select "Configure Fences..."
-Click on "Layout and snapping" on the left hand side of the configuration window that appears.
-Select a snapshot you wish to revert to. A preview window will appear showing you what the desktop will look like.
-Click Restore Snapshot to revert the desktop to this preview.
Again, test to make sure it is working as expected. If there are still issues, we need to know if:
-Fences is working at all
-If it was working prior to restoring the snapshot, but not after.
-The results of this tool:

Please let me know whether this resolves your problem or if you have any additional questions.
-I reinstalled windows
-It's asking for a Key code
-none of this fixed the issue
-Why isn't there a key code attached to the app like the rest of my steam games?
Sorry to hear you are having trouble.
Its VERY important that you have installed the Steam version and not any from our site or a trial. With that version, you should have sassteam.exe in the install directory. When so, the below would help if you are still being prompted:
You do not need a product key with the Steam version
It's important that:
-You do not have any other version of the software from any other source (stardock.com for example)
If you do, you need to uninstall that other version
-That you are logged into Steam and not as a 'guest'
-In the install directory, run sassteam.exe and see if you are able to use the product again.
Fences:
\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Fences
Start10:
\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start10
-If the above fails, uninstall / reinstall from within Steam (and only from within Steam) and try again.
Regards,
-I have four hard drives and after reinstalling windows "Fences" is stuck on another drive.
-I can't fully uninstall fences.
-I uninstalled from Steam
-I uninstalled from Control panel
-I can't delete the Fences folder "Files in use by another program"
-Fences is disabled in windows start up but continues to start.
-Fences on Steam does not activate and doesn't have a SASsteam.exe file
-I don't know what proceed to end in the task manager.
-Fences continues to prompt me anything I create or move icons but I can't active the program or delete it from my computer.
I'm not formating my drives again to remove a program that doesn't uninstall and doesn't have a key code.
No, every issue you have presented we have provided some action for. You just seemed to have created a situation ('-I have four hard drives and after reinstalling windows "Fences" is stuck on another drive.') that we have never seen before.
To make it easier for you to manually delete folders / files, please see:
