There seems to be a focus bug since years and version 1/2 reported already dozens of times to the developers, also by myself. All you will get is a list of standard reinstall and other suggestions. They just do not believe you since they "cannot reproduce" the bug even though half the forum on their own page can, no matter how good you describe it! XD Stardock is extremely bad at support and even worse with updates, which often took month to years in the past. When asking for the reason you get answers like "the code is too old and needs a full rewrite (example: Object Dock) after pushing them with the questions over month in the forums.
Last time i tried to report the issue they had shut down tickets and mail support for the application and send you to the forums instead! -.-
The software ideas they have are extremely good, but technically they are like amateurs. It is just the same like Bethesda with their games like Skyrim where the community has to show them how to set a flag in an executable to make an application aware of all your RAM. ^^
My hope is that the Steam users will build up enough pressure now so they finally come up with something one could call "support" and letting them fix issues that stand for years and several major version already. The Steam community knows how to handle such developers as i have seen in the past.
No offense here, but it is just as sad as this ... =(
this is exactly what has been happening to me. I really hope they fix this bug. It is as if two icons are being edited (renamed) at the same time, for some odd reason.
It is really easy to reproduce this: i often move website from my browser windows adress bar to the desktop to create a shortcut for later reference or such. If you click on plain space on the desktop, you can see how that last edited item is deselected. Means, the selection stays on that item and brings it in context with any taken action like hitting the delete key.
It also very often happens that Fences does not properly save item positions and you find an item you moved to a fence in another or just on the desktop. This also happens when you rename an item like a shortcut. I guess there maybe is a bug in the rules you can do for the fences. However, i just have activated some default rules to move some item types to the one of my two fences and others to the other so nothing is targeting the desktop itself to keep all content nicely inside a Fence in the middle of it instead of sorting it from the top left corner as Windows does normally. Absolutely basic. But even without any rules the same happens.
However, the only way to mske Stardock fixing this is that more people confirm this bug and creating some (constructive) pressure on them. Or flooding them with bug reports maybe. But by now the wether do not respond to this at all, ask you to "reinstall" and such which does not help or just tell you there is no problem! XD Not helpful ... -.-
I would like to work with you on it but under the condition that these type comments are avoided:
'The software ideas they have are extremely good, but technically they are like amateurs.'
'Stardock is extremely bad at support and even worse with updates'
They are just not true nor do they help resolve the issue.
First, I need you to run the latest purge:
https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling
Please take note of the 'DO NOT' change any of the default settings passage.
If it does not work, please say so and provide a video of what you are doing to reproduce it.
If it does work with the default settings, enable the Roll-up feature on a Fence and see if it is reproducible then.
Again, I would also like to know if this is happening with other files other than MS office files.
Let me know, please.
I can just say for myself and tell what experiences i made with Stardock support so far. If not deleted, everything can be read on the Stardock forums (yet, years old). However, this does not help anyone; sure. I would prefer the problem solved after all these years also.
I already tried the latest purge since this is what your support always requests with the first answer. Since these problems happen for me for years and i have completely reinstalled all three computers several times since then, there is nothing like an "installation problem" or something easy like this; there is a serious bug here. We have been through all the regular trouble shooting steps several times and nothing changed even a bit. It still is the same thing as several others can confirm also.
As i said before, doing a video was my next idea so i have a solid proof and you cannot tell me anymore that there is no problem (what you did). However, as i also said, i am EXTREMELY busy through work at the moment letting me not work on even much more important stuff so i cannot tell when i will be able to do so. Maybe one of the other affected people can do so meanwhile (the free "ShareX" program is a easy and quick way to do so, for example).
I can open another support ticket at your website on your name if you prefer to.
I am going into holidays next week and have the video on my to do list; maybe we can provide a "proof" then to get it fixed finally.
