Sorry to hear you are having issues. From what I know, Fences need to be install in its default location for it to work properly.

Nothing is in this update will 'break' what you have now nor have we ever 'forced' anyone into a newer version. We also have never, will never, stop any prior version from working as it always has.
Also, all of our products allow you to install on as many PCs as you have purchased (1 or 5). If you ever run into a PC limit (failing to uninstall on the prior PC is the most common cause), all our modern apps (Start11, Groupy, Fences, CursorFX, Multiplicity, etc) allow you to free up dead \ unused PCs on the fly right in the app.

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1332477959/Fences+purging+and+re-installing. Reboot after the purge. For Steam, please follow the steps mentioned for Steam Purchases in the link above.
