Fences vs Rainmeter
Could someone who has used both software explain to me what the differences are between the two? What are the pros and cons (in your opinion) of both?

They are really not even closely the same. Rainmeter is more like desktop gadgets.

Fences is a utility that organizes your desktop icons.

Rainmeter is free; customizable down to the pixel; you can layer it's skins on your desktop or have them in front of other windows; it doesn't conflict with other programs but instead uses plugins that can draw from certain local data such as system clock time, network information, media player information etc, as well as online data via a web parser, and display it locally on your desktop; it has lower RAM usage and doesn't contain adware or DRM.

Fences is easier to use but only made with one specific use in mind - to organize your desktop icons. Whereas Rainmeter is made to be more static and isolated, Fences is more interactive and incorporates more with the Windows GUI

The two are comparable to the extent that you can create desktop icons that link to programs or websites using Rainmeter, but that's about where the similarity ends
