License Key Required
Hello,

I have bought Fences on Steam on 31st of March, and wanted to try it out today. But it requires a license key to activate the product. I have sent a mail to support@stardock.com, though I haven't received any answer.

Isn't this a bit irresponsible not to provide keys to Steam users beforehand like some other titles do? It is really not cool not being able to use a product I have already paid for.

I hope someone will contact me soon.

Please make sure Steam is not in offline mode, then uninstall the app, re-download/install and try to run again. Let me know if it still asks.

I have the same problem. I'm getting the message "fences does not appear to be loaded. You may need to reinstall Fences." I was unable to properly uninstall or reinstall and eventually had to activate a 30 day trial because if I try to reinstall using steam, the installer doesn't authenticate correctly. I guess it's still installed, but not working as it should, and is a trial version.

I tried purging Fences from my OS via IObit Uninstaller. Then I tried installing it again. It finally worked. It is not asking me for a license key again. Looks like it works this time. I don't know what the problem was. But it was frustratingly annoying not being able to uninstall the application via conventional ways. Next time I'll be more careful buying apps on Steam. This experience made me sure of it.

I tried IObit Uninstaller but it doesn't find Fences.

Edit: I was finally able to fix this by killing it's dll in an elevated instance of PowerShell. I was then able to reinstall using steam. There was still an error, but IObit Uninstaller could then see the installation an thus uninstall Fences properly. I then reinstalled with steam again and hopefully everything is working correctly now. These are the PowerShell commands I used if anyone needs them:

Get-WmiObject Win32_Process -Filter "name = 'rundll32.exe'" | Select-Object CommandLine,ProcessId

Stop-Process -Id <ProcessID>

i tried uninstalling and re installing but get the same thing.

Close any Fences activation window, also make sure Steam is online and open.

Please navigate to your installation directory for Fences and run Sassteam.exe

Usually: C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Fences

still asks for key, when i bought Mosaico it comes with a key just incase.

PLZ fix it, i uninstalled it for now cus everytime i move a desktop icon it asks for a key.

idk what happend or what i did but it stopped asking for a Key. I had re - installed it so many times i had several copies i guess when i did it through steam it never really uninstalled.
whatever happened its working now without asking fro a key.

Was going to buy Fences until I saw this post and the comments. Guess I won't bother now.

This is a not a common issue. Alternatively, you can purchase through the Stardock store.

yes, i am having the same problem, keep on asking me to active the update version..... any solution? i paid before already....
