McOsu
Mc Osu Leaderboard Project
Hello, as you may know McOsu currently doesn't have a leaderboard, but if you guys are interested I can make a discord for keeping track of scores and so on. You would just post your screenshot in the scores chat and I would add it tol your top plays. Pretty simple stuff tbh. However, I need people willing to participate because it's useless if onnly 2 people are on the leaderboard. This would be good for people who are restricted, and people who want to farm 1.2x or 1.3x speed.

I think that sounds like a really good idea!

the problem is that no one else is interested and we would at least need 3+ people to participate. If you could find anyone interested let me know :D

its not a problem to proggram in game leaderboard with your top plays on maps, but it takes time.
just make a new discussion with this idea and get some people into it . When he see a lot of people that agree with this idea he might do this :)

The only issue with that is that it would basically be copying osu at that point. The whole point of mcosu was to be an open source practice client, so actually implementing a leaderboard into it might ruin that idea. Idk maybe

Necro thread, but with more details this time (since multiplayer and leaderboards keep coming up)

Then don't get restricted and don't cheat. Your second point is valid, and will probably be implemented in osu!lazer at some point in the far future (getting online pp from custom rates). The joke is that you wrote this 4 years ago, yet lazer doesn't even have score submission yet lul.

Copying osu is kinda the premise of this entire thing, but only for the purpose of practicing.

It's not so much that it would ruin the idea, but more so that any online service and social network like osu is a crapton of work to support (if done properly), in addition to it not making sense to duplicate because we already have osu, as well as splitting the community and other consequences.

This would mean implementing and maintaining:
  • Servers for coordinating multiplayer (lobbies, p2p protection)
  • Servers for submitting/hosting scores (database maintenance)
  • Frontend/website for viewing scores and profiles
  • Paying relatively high monthly hosting costs
  • Maintaining all of those servers and databases
  • Lots of annoying in-game UI code
  • Anticheat (for both the client as well as submitted replays/scores)
  • Moderators for keeping things civil
  • Support (ban disputes etc.)
  • etc. etc. etc.

All of you underestimate how much work this really is.

I'm just doing gamedev as a hobby in my free time after work, and McOsu only exists because I was really annoyed at missing features for practicing (plus having fun with my own game engine).

Hobbies are something you should enjoy doing, and I would not enjoy working on the list above at all (for this game). It's simply out of scope for this project.
I also have other game prototypes I enjoy working on completely unrelated to osu.
