Police Quest - SWAT 2

Police Quest - SWAT 2

Replacement movies
The movies that come with this game use a codec that is not very friendly to modern versions of Windows (especially with Windows 8/10). The best thing to do is completely replace them all with re-encoded versions that use the popular XVID codec.

Download the replacement movies from The Mod Database:

Hey Slippery I replaced the movies to these xvid-movies but now this error occurs "MEM_size Failure". Can you help me with it?

Thanks

This is what someone else posted about a fix for the Mem_Size error

Browse your local game files. Find the file called swat.ini. Open with notepad.

Inside, find these variables and make sure they have these corresponding values set.

maximized=0
FullScreenEx=0

If they are different, change and then save and try to launch game.

No idea if this actually works. Please let us know if it helps.

The error keeps showing but now I had the chance to click ok until this disappear and see the video. Any more suggestions?

I wish I had that problem on my machine so I could troubleshoot it, lol.

As for as I know the MEM_RESIZE_FAILED error comes from the Smartheap Library. This is over my head too by the way.

This is how someone described it:

Smartheap is a windows service/utility to access the heap on the memory. Heap is basically an area of RAM that can be used for "temporary storage". However, the memory addressing of this area can become complicated due to its purpose so Smartheap was introduced. However, this can still cause problems if the application fails to address Smartheap properly and gives direct or indirect memory addresses therefore possibly causing the program to override data on the memory causing Smartheap errors.

I will need to see if other games have problems like this.

Question: do you have an AMD video card by chance?

Just a thought...have you also tried some basic things like putting swat.exe in compatibility modes?

* Set the Compatibility mode to windows 95 or Windows 98
* Run the Program as an Administrator

My video card is Radeon HD 7770.

Didn't work on any compatibility mode with or without administrator...

And the game is so laggy here...

It appears that this error is more common with AMD cards.

HA312W32.DLL (by MicroQuill Software Publishing) - HeapAgent (Heap Debugging Library for Win32)

SHW32.DLL (by MicroQuill Software Publishing) - SmartHeap (Memory Management Library for Win32)

Until we can figure out a fix for this problem you may want to just temporarily live without the movies by renaming the movie folder.
SlimUP Jun 27, 2017 @ 5:21pm
Yes I can live without the movies but the problem with lag still the same. The game just run smoothly when I resize the window way smaller like a tiny square... :'(

Maybe try DxWnd

https://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/

This is an app useful for old games. Basically you can run the game in a window to help with framerate issues like this. With some tweaking of the settings if I recall you can do a borderless window that makes it appear full screen if you wish.

Thanks. I'll try.

Hey I'm having the same mem resize issue. I can live without the videos. How do i bypass them? delete them from the folder?
