From what I've heard, the use of a red nose in contemporary Western cartoon art is often connected to an art style common among animators that graduated from CalArts and which has also been influential among tumblr artists (hence, it's sometimes called a 'tumblr nose'). So, it could be influence along those lines.

my guess : a cartoony art style trope. Such as rosy cheeks on children in more old fashioned cartoons.

An artstyle fad that exists for some reason. I don't like it personally, it looks like everyone has serious allergies.
