How to play custom maps against friends?

Because i don't see an option and this was a very big part of what attracted me to this type of game, i know you could in advance wars so i'd assume you can in this? :S

First just download a map, then head into online>host game>pick the said map and just invite your friend eather through a link or a steam invite, easy as that

Why do i need to download my own map, i've created it myself? :S wtf

It's weird like that. You can only play online with verified maps, which is why you need to download your own post-launch (since the server knows for certain that's the verified map).

Your own map? You might need to publish it first (which involves proving that it's possible to complete.)

Try that first, from the 'Share' tab.

Then it'll be visible at the very bottom of the map list.
