Hows the difficulty compared to advance wars
I really liked how challenging some advance wars levels could be. Espescially days of ruin with some levels basically requiring perfect play. Hows this compare? Would I be better off with into the breach?

This is definitely better than ITB, I have both in the switch. I used to own a GBA version of AW2, I played that game to death. ITB is for bite sized play, this is for real strategic play, with even more emphasis on positioning than AW. Its definitely harder than AW if you don't make use of the added game mechanics and place certain units with each other.

Id say this is harder than advance wars. I can specifically remember in the original only 2 levels really gave me trouble, same thing in dual strike. Only two levels were dificult. In this game however its been a gritty fight every single step of the way. I just completed a mission called "An old Friend". Three attempts, only got a C rank, I never want to play it again.

I've been playing SRPGs since Shining Force and this is easily the hardest I've played. It's not unusual for me to fail most missions at least once
Some of the missions are very hard, almost unrealistically hard, to the point of being a chore. There's on midfight save either, so if you spent an hour on that single map where 20 or so units per side have to move, then you're going to do that map again. And thanks to the poorly designed campaign this will happen very VERY frequently.

i am not doubting your frustration, but there is in fact a mid game save: simply exit the mission (do NOT push abandon) and it will ask if you wish to resume when you return.
Yeah, certainly more 'tactics' involved, so I believe it's more difficult. There's just so much more to consider, but it's great.

its been ages since ive played advanced wars but i remember being stuck on 1 mission on that game when i was younger, this game has an issue with unit spamming in story mode (if u legit spam spears the whole gaame until u find a giant and switch to a few catipults u wreck everything, minus ofc air, this strat is also good for eco sicne it only costs 150g/base per turn)

In my opinion, about difficulty, it's on par with the Advance War series.

The AI will not be a match in 1Vs1 mirror map match again an human, but It's standard on theses games. The scripted campaign and skirmishes maps are cool, and especially since we have a campaign/map full editor includind scripts and cutscenes in this game, we will find what you search for if you are in the "Advance war - like".
Into the breach is a completely different type of game. If you're only looking for a game similar to advanced wars wargroove is the game you want (ITB is nothing like advanced wars).

That being said, ITB is also fantastic with its own merits, I highly suggest picking it up some time.
This game is hard af. So harder.

IMPORTANT NOTE : You can lower the difficulty with a difficulty slider to make campaign missions easier. It forces you to only get 1 star in each mission, but if the game is hard to the point of lowering difficulty, you probably won't mind.
