When the game freezes, what happens with the sound output? Does it loop endlessly, stop, or you can still hear it as normal? Other than that, maybe it's a good idea to enable cheats to hopefully skip the problem altogether or narrow down the cause of this exact trigger.
Each computer is different and slightly different combinations of hardware can lead to weird problems or uncover unexpected bugs in the game.
In the worst case I can make you a special save to skip that part of the level.

It's not exactly for this but it should be enough to understand what to do.

Download KeepCrashDumps.reg and run it by double-clicking. Run the game until it crashes, get the SphinxD_GL dump file from C:\Temp\CrashDumps and upload it somewhere so that I can analyze it and track down the issue.
You can then just download and double-click IgnoreCrashDumps.reg to roll the changes back. I'm on a break right now, but I'll take a look once I come back.
Let me know if you manage to get some useful files.
EDIT:
I cant seem to understand how to run the .reg file without getting that error. Is a saved log from the event viewer good enough? Or is the information on a file like that not enough?
