EDIT: Yeah this was a real pity, up until the point I had to fight spectre and spiders in the one level the game was showing promise but without the ability to change ammo then its just broken. Unfortunately I'm outside my two weeks for a refund as well. Seems a really bizarre omission.
EDIT2: Thought I'd sell back some ammo to get some money for a second weapon but you have to sell all the ammo in one go LOL. OK I'll just grind out the forensics house until I can afford a second weapon. Yes I finally have enough money oh wait you can't have two side arms it must be a weapon that's specifically designated as a primary and.. I can't equip primary weapons until level 6. Yeah gonna put this in the backlog since I can't refund. Maybe the dev will revisit it one day, unlikely but I can always hope. My own fault for buying this in the sale and not checking it out within the refund window.
I got a similar experience, great game idea but the application could be better. Progress is too slow and some mechanics are just not fun, bought on sale as well.
Also, I used to carry a rapid fire weapon with incendiary/silver ammo and a main weapon with regular bullets, that way I could have normal damage in case I wasn't prepared.
Well I appreciate the response, don't get me wrong, but just for example I would search a room and find spider fur so I'd equip the incendiary, then I would open the next room and get attacked by a spectre. When there is more than one type of enemy then analyzing the environment doesn't seem to be enough.
I would agree that two weapons are obviously the way to go and without the ability to switch ammo that is clearly how the game developer intended it to be played. However depending on what class you pick you may not be able to equip a second weapon for quite awhile.
For those reasons I decided to park this game but I might come back to it at some stage and rethink my strategy, Regardless I appreciate the advice.
In your inventory, you can carry up to 3 types of ammo at the same time, 1 in each gun and a extra of your choice, so you can switch between them without having to go back to the van

thank you
Use your glowstick on bone piles or a microphone i think on the ghost orbs, then you get an option to see what cryptid is responsible and where it is (you will see a magnifying glass and the name of the cryptid before entering a room)
The clues just tell you that there is a specific beasty around but not where
Also not having a necesary skill for a main weapon only means your reload is slower, you can still equip one
Ok very helpful, I must check that out. Thanks
When he says check corpses, he means actually use the UV light secondary that allows you to use some battery to identify the exact cryptid and/or its location in the house. Much easier to be prepared when you do that. Knowing that the cryptid involved is a centipede and is behind that door you were about to open is super helpful.
Edit: my bad, I hadn't read whole thread when I responded and missed that he already clarified. Also, as you said, saving up money for a second weapon is also super helpful in terms of being able to have 2 ammo types ready to go instantly.
So I scanned a corpse and identified the location of a milipeed, now I don't actually have information on that particular cryptid yet but regardless on my way to open that door I was attacked by spiders. So I respectfully state again that analyzing the scene only gets you so far when there is multiple cryptids.
EDIT: Here is another scenario. I scanned a corpse and Identified spectre, great equipped the silver ammo, opened the door and yes there was a spectre, I killed the spectre and then tried analyzing some more corpses but they all just said cryptid already killed so I figured that the spectres are no longer a threat I'll now equip a different ammo. Open another door and I'm attacked by another spectre! This game is just trolling me.
Yeah, there can be multiples, and you have to find different corpses to identify them all. Usually any given cryptid will have several corpses it was responsible for, so sometimes require working around.
I just recently discovered you have two small pockets above your pants, so with 2 weapons you can keep all 4 types of ammo on hand.
