TL;DR: I like Darksiders III and if you like it, what are some other souls-likes you enjoy? I liked Jedi Fallen Order and the demo of First Berserker Khazan.

Years ago, I remember someone writing that Darksiders III is a souls-like for people who don't like Dark Souls. I agree. I bounced off Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 pretty fast. I didn't like that it was so complicated and obscure, so you need to either experiment or look up answers online for what items do, how to spec your character, and so on. And the UI looked and sounded awful, too, IMO. Felt very old and cheap.

But I've really enjoyed Darksiders III (yes, with the default controls, not the "classic) and after playing through it over half a dozen times, I'm in the market for other souls-likes without Dark Souls' nonsense.

So far the only game I can think of that I've found to fit the bill is Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderr. That was pretty fun, though after just two playthroughs, I feel pretty much done with it and don't really want to replay it any more. I tried the sequel, but got bored with all the open world travelling, hunting collectables, and climbing/jumping on cliffs, walls and such.

In spite of being a bit more like Dark Souls (for no good reason, IMO), I enjoyed the demo of The First Berserker: Khazan, so I have high hopes for when that releases (later this month, I think?).

A friend recently recommended Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin but I bounced off it pretty fast. The early game was too easy, and I didn't want to play it until it was no longer refundable hoping it would get better.

So if you enjoyed Darksiders III with its default controls, but don't really care for Dark Souls, what other souls-like games have you enjoyed?

It's not complicated at all. Pick a weapon for your style fast and speedy vs slow and powerful etc and then go. Then focus on HP, STR, VIT and other combat-related skills on level-ups. Most armors will go the whole game so go with the stats you like most. Then go out and start killing. You can ignore most of the systems and just ignore the action aspects of the game. You're thinking about this way too hard but I suppose that's common with Souls games.

You seem to be acting like the game needed to be worthy of more than two playthroughs. I'd think two runs is more than enough out of any single-player affair, yes?

You just described Jedi Fallen Order. How can you be cool with all that in the first game but then the sequel has more of it and now you don't like it?

Also, how could you dislike it that game when Darksiders 3 is loaded with all this stuff...exploring and finding stuff is a massive part of this game. If you can't get into the Jedi games which are easily the most similar to Darksiders 3 then I have no idea what you like anymore.

As for games like this, you seem to want a game like Souls but without the stiff combat of Souls?....Like with more jumping and freedom of movement? Hard to say. There are a LOT of Dark Souls clones out there with a lot of variations.

Found a huge list here but don't know most of these...
