The backtrack in this game is brutal
I like it, though.

You mean collecting items after you get new Hollows? Yes, it's hard to remember where the stuff was. But the world itself is interconnected pretty smart.

the best way to go about it is just re-explore as soon as you collect all 4 hollows so you can just be sure you can go anywhere

It really, really sucks that the game doesn't have a full sized map, but I feel that the world design for backtracking works out pretty well here.

I find it amazing. I mean, when I got 3 hollows, I started exploring everything, but I knew where the icy walls were, so it was alright. It was very challenging to access all the places. Really good experience doing that, hahaha. However, it's the most brutal I've seen because there are too many hidden passages, some icy walls are too far from checkpoints. Add all that to the fact the game is hard and that enemies will respawn to spoil your backtracking whenever you die. It's not easy at all, yea.

I love the interconnected areas , getting lost and poping up in a previous area but from a completely different route ,
