So I'm literally stuck with it the entire game. That may be the worst oversight I've ever seen.
In fact, it's a very deliberate and intentional aspect of the game that you can actually progress through most of the areas while using the sword if you want to. Eventually you'll have to return it because you need to complete that puzzle to get to a boss, but it's entirely up to you when you do so.
Missing the point, I should not be forced to run around with a weapon that doesn't fit my style just because I pressed O when it came up on the screen. This is the first game I have ever come across that doesn't allow you to ditch something you picked up.
Not allowing you to drop it is good (and important) game design.
YOU are missing the point. You're actually holding a giant key, even though it happens to be in the shape of a weapon. The "style" is not one of user-choice, there is only one, and that is place the key in the lock dammit!
Where are communication skills when you need them?
If you pay attention and move quicky, you hold the sword for maybe about 30 seconds each time you find one. If not, you might be stuck with it for a few minutes. If you are holding it much longer than that, you used a serpent hole to leave the dungeon and being stuck with the sword is your fault.
It doesn't last long and doesn't need to be dropped because you can use it correctly very quickly. Just suck it up, and deliver the sword/key as soon as possible so that it isn't holding you back.
The puzzle might be easy to some, might only take "30 seconds" to complete, not having the choice is an oversight. Some players enjoy playing at thier own speed, might go back a few levels to kick some butt.
Also keep in mind some players are new to this game, best to be friendly and explain it's the dev's choice for not being able to drop a "Key Item".... yea that one was lame!
Anyway, this is just an opinion from an old fart,
Keep it clean
Facepalm, smh.
playing at their own speed?! what? you plan to stay stuck in the area permanently just because you play at the speed of refusing to solve a puzzle??
the sword who was laying on the ground was litterally on the other side of the gate (which should have been opened at this point) from the statue, so it would have only taken a few steps to get away from it
here the walktrough: https://guides.gamepressure.com/darksiders-iii/guide.asp?ID=47595
in the second picture you can see the sword on the ground
so i think this is fair enough of the game for the first sword puzzle
