Pieces of oblivion ore

I am on NG+4 and still haven't come across any pieces of oblivion ore. Need them to upgrade my armor past +6. Are they random drops or something?

They seem to be "semi-random". The stage (sliver, fragment, piece, chunk) of the ore is tied to the NG+ stage, but can still vary. For example on NG+9 you might find around 60% chunks 40% Pieces of Oblivon Ore.
I don't know the exact distribution, but I guess in NG+5 or NG+6 you should find a good amount of Pieces of Oblivon Ore.

Thank you for the information. Is the drop rate affected by the difficulty? I play on the easiest one

The difficulty does not affect it. Only the NG+ level you are currently at. As you progress through the NG+ levels, higher tier Oblivion Ore will drop. The higher you are, the higher the chance for a better Oblivion Ore. By NG+9, almost only Chunks will be dropping and Vulgrim will sell all the lower tiers.
