Tips on Dodging?
Hey guys,

I m working on Apocalyptic difficulty and currectly I m stuck either on Sloth or that Flame Warden dude to move on. I have cleared everything else I think and only have the flame hollow so far.

I have spent already like 5-6 hours into the game and I still can't dodge stuff consistently, and I consider myself a soulborne(+clones) veteran. It feels either like there are no iframes(or they are to some stupid part of the animation), or that the hitboxes are messed up, or I don't know, something feels VERY off. As said, I have probably over a thousand hours into such games...

That would be ok, if the game wasn't unbelievably punishing too, both of these bosses just 1-2 shot me, and they can chain attacks and stagger you. I keep trying them but I like get no chance to learn anything about them or the mechanics since I just die in 2 nanosecs. I m like level 16, with most of the points shared between arcane and Health, which I guess was a mistake since my arcane abilities just do ♥♥♥♥ damage anyway, especially that useless havoc form.

To make matters worse, Sloth is also holding hostage like 10K worth of souls since for some reason they drop close to the boss everytime despite dieing on purpose next to the door so I could grab them next time. Like how many more stupid design choices exist in this game...

If you haven't already, try to switch to "classic" combat mode in the gameplay settings and see if that feels better to you in regards to dodging. The default control scheme doesn't let you animation cancel ongoing moves, so even though you see the attack coming and try to dodge, you'll get hit if your attack animation was still going at the time you get hit. "Classic" style lets you animation cancel and feels more responsive to me, so it may help you as well. Also, one of the enhancements, "Obscurus", has an enlarged dodge window as its passive perk. Be sure to equip that on one of your weapons, for a bit more leniency when dodging.

I m on Classic as I believe the style they tried to force into the game was purely a mistake that simply does not work in a smooth/fun way, regardless of your skills and reflexes.

Yes I have heard of it but from what I have gathered it's at least a couple of bosses further into the game so not much help right now ><
Having no troubles here. Everything is pretty easily dodgeable on default mode, especially only on Apocalyptic difficulty. Reckoning is where the dodges require mostly precise timing.

You can't just spam dodge through everything but you have to start the dodge as close as possible to the moment the contact/damage would happen. At least now, you can't take damage when performing Arcane counters. I read that you could in the 1st month the game was out. Now THAT would've been a nightmare trying to fight multiple enemies at once.

If you are getting 1 or 2 shot, spend more points into Health (Vulgrim sells a respec item). Especially early on, Health gives massive returns for every single point. You start at 200 and gain 20 additional HP per Health level.

Don't ever over-commit. Don't try to get that one last hit in thinking you will be able to dodge the attack in time. Especially with bosses, the main focus should be not getting hit, then dealing damage.

But I only play on Default mode so can't help much if you play on Classic since I have no idea how different it feels.

Honestly the only thing that ever worked for me on my apoco run was dodging twice in a row and keeping her moving at all times. The first dodge never really worked and only the whip would keep multiple enemies off her. It's super close to spamming but you still need to know how to fight each enemy or you're screwed.

Obscurus Enhancement : angelic path = evade invincibility window increases

Obviously first things first is to get your hands on that Obscurus Enchantment, Socket it in any weapon you have, and enjoy that Bonus I-Frames. In addition, like what majority said here, Upgrade it in Angelic Path and play that “Can’t Touch This” Song in the Background.

Also, if you’re playing on Default, it would be best not to combo like Crazy, attack once or twice then pay attention to enemies’ movements. If they start to attack, stop your combo and prepare to dodge. Works well for me before the Devs implement that Almighty Saving Grave Classic Mode.

Cafeine is the best enhancement.
