Death's story in the second game is taking place around the same time as the first game with War.
Fury's storyline no doubt like War and Death's storyline run in parallel to one another just like Strife's storyline will/does as well. After all they have to in order for the first game's ending to happen the way it does.
The 4 horsemen in Darksiders were designed a decade ago. Fury has always been a female character since the beggining and was always planned to be the lead of the third game once they decided each horseman would get their own game.
Fury being the lead in this game has nothing to do with the current gaming climate of SJWs or being PC. Darksiders 3 with Fury as the lead would have already happened at this point years ago had THQ not shut down.
People like you spouting off this non sense about the game being the way it is because of the current game climate is just that, non sense. It's a bunch of made up BS you spew to try and validate your own opinion.
Finally if they hadn't done Fury their only other option was to do Strife who is hardly interesting and wields twin pistols. Are twin pistols your idea of interesting weapon designs because that's what Strife's character is, and there's no changing that as he's long since been established as the 4th horseman.
It's not cut and dry who the strongest Horseman is. When Death did that to War War was quite young compared to how old he was in the game.
Death is the leader though and regardless of who's the strongest in the group? He's probably the most deadly. I suspect that when it comes to just raw power? War is probably the strongest and he got powered up quite a bit by the end of the first game. Death is probably the most skilled and also is according to Strife nearly invulnerable.
