The druid is more balanced in that he has all stats at a decent level, but of course, lacks the specialization. Still leans more towards the magical side though.
Both classes are very good so your choices might be what is more important/missing to your current group. The female mage has also a cute look (Yuuki is that you? ^^) but I guess that ´s semi important ;-)
Druid can summon eldercones and the little tree ones (forgot name) but normally you don ´t need summons. When you can effort an elven druid your group is usually strong enough to not be related to pets and summons anymore, except you pick elven druid as your chosen character from the start, imho it ´s the strongest card to start with before the dwarven smith. And it has access to the swesome earhquake spell (not sure if mage can learn it too).
That being said you can ´t go wrong with elven staff, though. Only the guardian is a bit weak. But the elven gatherer is so freaking strong it can outclass every other class with the right gear and skills when you let him level up in the elven lands .
Sorry, but no. My last game was Elven Slave + Elven Child run and i managed to grow child to forest guardian. And she was brilliant kraken slayer. Forest guardian has bit less perception than elven gatherer and way more health.
Just give her javelines and she both tanks and does incredible damage. Actually try Dzievanna's start with elven child + Mithril goat, grow child to forest guardian and give javelines created from that mithril. Then you will see how strong forest guarian actually is.
I have actually posted some comments and screenshots about elven slave -> druid and elven child -> guardian run here:

Yeah I liked your idea from RPG view and so I tried it out by myself, thx for the inspiration though. It was a nice gamerun though and I don ´t mind the stats so much, but compared to mage, druid and gatherer it ´s much weaker imho.
It ended up with hybrid stats, nothing really bad but no mastery at all but might also have been my fault as I supposed him to be to be a tank, and he never shined on the frontrow battlefield but he was solid with Sword and Board later on.
Perception was too low to be an awesome archer and his mental and magic power remained medicore too. Well, I ´m not complaining, an elf is an elf and they do pretty well in this game ;-)
