Triggering children at max difficulty with 2 or 4 characters better?
So I've been trying to get my last achievement, "Unshaken".

I thought starting with 2 characters (warrior and dwarf child) under Triglav would be sound, since it would minimize food during that first tough winter and give xp every round for a faster growth event. The problem I cannot overcome with this choice is that 2 characters don't seem to produce children. I've played 5 attempts with this setup and produced zero children. And 2 characters don't seem to be able to survive by around turn 200-250, even when I got super lucky and the dwarf child became a Lava Rocker.

In contrast, I've done 2 attempts with 4 characters (warrior, 2 children, 1 orc child), and each run has triggered multiple children. The first one actually spawned 2 orc babies and 2 humans, the second spawned 3 humans.

I was under the impression that the smaller the group the more likely to trigger a child event, is this right or wrong? Based on my experience it seems starting with a party of 4 is better despite the food shortage.

Any other tips for getting "Unshaken" are welcome. =)

Dwarf+human can't get children. Though some child events should still trigger iirc.

You are somewhat correct. The smaller your group compared to your STARTING group, the more children you will see. It doesn't matter if you start the game with 1 character or 100 characters, the only relevant factors are turn number and how many more/less characters you have.

Also I'm pretty sure that the achievement is only for two human kids...
I'm sensing some confusion from you guys as to what the achievements are.

Unshaken
Finish the main quest playing on hard difficulty.

Kindergarten
Start with two human children only and survive 100 turns.

Unshaken is just finishing the game on hard.
Oh RIP.

Aaah good to know. Wish there had been something in game to tell me this (or did I miss it), before I tried it 5 times lol.

Now that we are clear on what "Unshaken" is, any pro tips for achieving it?

Exactly. Any pro tips for achieving it?

I'm not sure if I'm just feeling overly pessimistic from the 5 dwarf/human fails or if I am doing something wrong (I've had no problems playing on Normal). I current game is going relatively well (got a party of 7 now, 1 orc crafter, 1 bandit leader, 2 bandits, 1 zerca, 1 healer, 1 warrior); but I'm not sure when to push forward.

Thanks both of you. =)
Well when I completed "Unshaken" I did it the really hard way and also did the "Kindergarten" achievement in the same game.
Not much I can offer I'm afraid.

What is the really hard way? All my settings are maxed out.

As my reply said, I did the "Kindergarten" achievement too. So that means I played on maximum difficulty with only 2 human children.
Got it, that would be harder. =)

Do you happen to remember roughly how many turns your game lasted?

I wondering if part of the reason I'm struggling is that I'm rushing to soon.
Sorry I don't recall. I did this back when achievements were first added to the game some time ago.
There's nothing wrong with taking your time.

The only things I really recall was even though I had a village I took everyone into one party to face the boss and everyone had full T3 equipment. The final fight was a cakewalk.

Thanks for that. I'll try to shoot for T3 gear before taking on the boss.

Currently I have a couple of pieces of elemental armor, one elemental weapon, and 1 legendary weapon; but it sounds like I need a bit more.

One more question if I may... do you remember how many people were in your party?

I'm trying to decide if I should send a group of 7 who are all high level or to send a larger group with mixed levels. Seems like the mixed group could be risky.
Seven high level characters tooled out will be enough. If you want to take more then it won't hurt even if they have only T2/3 gear.
Got Unshaken today!

I took my time, got to T3, and it was an easy fight like you said.
Thanks again for those tips XenoReaver. =)

Does the 2 children start means that only children card can be used?
You can use other cards, you just can't use any other character cards. So you can get try to get as many starting bonuses as possible.
A good choice is the Harmony card that gives your chosen a healing skill (lowers chance of death)
