How to obtain Dwarves, Elves, and Orcs
I'm hoping someone can explain how I can obtain dwarves, elves, or orcs. I repeatedly fulfill quests and whenever I encounter wandering groups from their towns I choose to convince them I am friendly. How can I tell if I am "allied" with a town or even just how much a particular town/race likes me? What am I missing to get one to join me?

I got one dwarf after choosing the "Ice" path for the main quest. I guess, elven characters are obtained via a certain branch of the main quest as well. Orcs can be hired in the Orc town situated on the lava island. You befriend them by supplying them with metals/wood or taking quests from them. Then, you will be able to visit fighting pits and hire Orc warriors and hunters (improved versions of humans).

You can also get goblin children by encountering certain events on the goblin island.

P.S. There are more ways to get new characters like skeletons and stuff. I don't know all of them, but hope this answer helps.

Yes, I have obtained goblins, wraiths, wind spirits, rats, and demons. Thanks so much for the hints on orcs and dwarves! 8 )

Also dwarves can be recruited from their village. They have silly high crafting stats and come with higher base stats overall, mostly wis and decent hp pools.

one of the previous updates (2 or 3 updates ago) i was able to recruit an ice demon who was able to make friends with the ice demon village... they trade accessories/jewellary for stones i think. but not sure if its still available cos a newer version stopped me from making friends... even thou getting the ice demon is still possible

Haven't got a dwarf yet, but I got my first goblin when a kid grew up and I sent it on the "Chance" pathway. THey she has some kids and grand kids,

ANother goblin I got from a rescue from slavers on the dwarf island. I got an orc that way too.

I got an elf and an ice demon from the main quest. I assume, dwarfs could also be had that way.

I got a Dwarf (late) in the main quest.

One of the biggest issues I have with them is that they have such low mobility that they cripple your main group. You can easily get a group with up to 9-10 movement points and having a dwarf in later stages is quite annoying. You need to hire them and then spend a lot of time moving them to your village to use them effectively as craftsmen and gatherers. In terms of fighting potential, orcs are still much better choices.

I used orc hunters as very efficient supporters. They have innately high INT. You give them scrolls, shields and heavy armor. They can summon big skeletons, tank damage, and debuff enemies due to high PER stat.

I really hope that devs will add the teleportation ritual ASAP. It would be great to send children/low mobility new characters to the village immediatelly. As of rn, the main exploration group gets burdened by low mobility characters to a point where I have to give up children or hiring new members to quicken the exploration process.

The nature of the reinforcement radius really helps with that mobility problem, Fargo. You can let your slow group lag behind a bit while your higher-mobility group explores all the nooks and corners of a map, knowing that those children/dwarves/Sanity-injured few will be able to pull the main group in for combat if they get attacked. It's not perfect - there are quite a few events that ignore the reinforcement radius - but it helps a lot with getting around.

Yeah. The thing is... I don't care about the losses or outcomes. At some point, my main group becomes strong enough to sweep through any kind of enemies. The only problem is that it is slowed down by low mobility party members/children. What I usually do is send them home with a single high-power character as an escort. I utilize the feature of reincofrcement radius near the settlement where I have at least two-three small groups that gather additional resources or just fish for random events. However, I would like an option for birth-control. It would be cool if children would born only in the village and if you have a special building. Much like it was in Thea 1 where you could get a cabbage field.

Tbh, the only true problem that I have right now is that the chance of getting zerca/witch was stealth-nerfed (it seems). I had two female children with MYST stat over 6 and didn't get an option for a witch.

No stealth-nerf. One "nerf" was announced back in time in patch note, but the chance wasn't lowered since. The chance is 50% to have the witch trial for a female child with at least 4 myst. Having more doesn't increase the chance for the trial (and as far as i know, never did).

Two female children with enough myst not having the trial is a bit unlucky, but just a bit.

About zerca, the chance to have the trial is higher (something like 65%), with a requirement of wisdom of 3 or having already a zerca (which is unnecessary for me and should be removed).

In my experience, here are the current ways to get other races (other than the main quest):

Goblins:
-possible child event if one parent is a Goblin
-possible result for the CHANCE option on human child growing up
-possible outcome of the Theodore quest
*Currently the Goblin village doesn't seem to offer any Goblin recruiting

Orcs:
-possible child event if one parent is an Orc
-with enough reputation in Orc village, can recruit a orc Warrior, Hunter variant, or child (repeatable, but you pay the cost each time)
-Small chance of Orc child when choosing the [Female] option at the Orc village

Dwarves:
-possible child event if one parent is a Dwarf (assumed - I've only had the event where both parents are Dwarves. The event is very cool though)
-with enough reputation in Dwarf village, can recruit one Dwarf gatherer, one Dwarf craftsman, and one Dwarf child (does not seem to be repeatable, so you only can pay the cost 3 times for one of each)

Elves:
-while I did unlock a recruitment option through Elf village reputation, it seems to be bugged (and contain an obvious typo - recruit one of our klin) and non-repeatable
-from the forums, an Elf MAY be able to have an Elf child with a human with the beautiful trait

As far as the child mobility problem goes, I always send out every expedition with extra boars and/or horses for any unexpected children. The Dwarf movement decrease can also be solved with boars, horses, and/or legendary gear with +1 move.

Fantasically helpful, Thunder!

@Thunderllama you also have a chance of getting an orc child when you use the [Female] option when visiting the Alpha Clans for sexy times. In addition to that I've heard of people getting an orc child from slavers.
Thunderllama Feb 2, 2019 @ 3:42pm
Thanks @Gizzabe. I added the Female option to the list. And I think you are right that there are a few random quests that can give Orcs (or Goblins) but they are so random as to be hard to plan around.

Okay, time for a new game.
