Goblin Beastmaster

So, I just recruited a Goblin Beastmaster. The description seems to indicate some sort of ability as a pet trainer ... but how does that work? If at all?

In other words, what good is this class for anyways??? The combat and mental stats are rather mediocre, spiritual stats decent. So just a scroll/codex user ... or is there something else I'm missing?

He has a summon beast skill that advances pretty quickly, so maybe that's what it means.

Goblin Beasmaster has special options in some of the beast related encounters, like Slavian village quests about boars and bears.
