The tutorial should have explained this and can be consulted at any time.
-Cooked food is lighter per item than uncooked, in fact the entire stack (you get 12 from about 8 ingredients) will be lighter than those 8 ingredients.
-Cooked food has a higher value for trade than normal food, when value applies.
-Cooked foods count as a new food type for the morale improvement system, including when a particular food is cooked with different ingredients (so pickles from veggie/veggie is different than from veggie/wheat).
-Because you both get more food from the cooking than the ingredients used, and because it is lighter, it is extremely beneficial to expeditions to carry cooked foods. This aside from the morale system.
-Due to the increased value and lighter weight, a village that produces cooked foods can be an incredible source of trade resources.
