PS4 controller issues

Hey guys! I used my PS4 controller for ages playing this and one day it just stopped working. I've used different cables, different USB slots, different controllers, I have DS4 installed (always tells me nothing is plugged in). I'm out of options and I can't find a solution anywhere, someone help! Running windows 10, not buying an xbox one controller just for this game too.

Something is weird with controller support. my XB1 controller NEVER works when I boot up the game. The only way I can get the controller to be recognized inconsistently is go into the options menu and sometimes it will arbitrarily start working again. If not, close the game, rinse and repeat.
