He followed you home, didn't he? ;)
He only shows up for me now when I steal the secret item in the secret room.
Now that I know the deal, I'm not having too much trouble avoiding him, but I was completely boned the first time he showed up and I though he was just another monster I had to fight to open up my way out of that room.
Now the 2 main ways I can see him being problematic is:
1- He spawns in while I'm trapped in a room and can't leave in any way at all, not even the amulet, which usually happens when I'm in a mimic room. Dealing with a mimic and the wanderer at the same time would be a bit much.
2- He spawns in while I'm dealing with a slime who keeps paralizing me and I don't have time to fight it as I keep having to run away from the Wanderer.
Some of the rooms have VERY restricted movement, with pits and rubble blocking us off, but that the Wanderer just goes right through/over. Also, some of the enemies require very specific circumstances to hit, like the shield using golums where you have to hit them from behind, or that spikey thing that you can only hit when it's low enough after it's made a strike on you. Then there's the slimes, which hold you fast and if you're in a jam with the Wanderer on your butt, that can be all that's needed to let him get is God Whack in on you.
Unless there's some circumstance that's limiting our mobility, yes, I have found it is very possible to outrun the wanderer. Still, when he shows up, unless I already know where the door down is, I prefer to just Amulet on out as I won't be able to pick up much loot properly anyways, especially on the lower floors where many chest items have complicated rules to how to place them in the pack and my pack's already getting full by then so I need time to make decisions and shift things around.
I made this mistake, too, but was corrected that you can ALWAYS use the amulet.
