I ran into this same thing, and I managed to soft-lock the game this way as well. I'd picked up all items in the room, but couldn't sell anything to get 200gp
I suspect the issue is that we don't have 200 coins in order to use the pendant to warp out, having used 200 of our 300gp in a previous pendant use; the old guy won't let you back in the store to sell more, as I suspect he's waiting for you to trigger the next part of the story.
My brother, who also has the game, suggested selling items from my inventory to make up the 200gp...But I apparently don't have the ability to sell from my inventory yet. He laughed very hard when I had to admit I was so bad that the game didn't want to let me out of that room.
I honestly suspect that we were supposed to make it to that end room in one go, but I guess you (along with myself) didn't, used the pendant early and couldn't afford the second use :D
By the looks of it, It's a progression blocker that will need to be re-worked for those who play the game ultra-safe (or are just really bad, like me).
I was stuck and close to the dungeon boss and the pendant was just kind of "flashing" (like sending some "sort of wave") without letting me be able to use it. I died losing all my stuff, totally unfair . There is a lack of work on the UI / UX (and feedbacks) it's frankly painful (as a game ux designer, it puts me out of me ! )
Middle of a run, the B button is flashing at me to press it, but it doesn't work -- I don't have enough gold, it's only my 2nd run -- and the Bubble Bobble ghost is on my tail.
So, I let the ghost kill me, I lose everything, end up outside the dungeon.
This is a VERY broken mechanic. It leaves a very sour taste in the mouth.
Also: The "combat" system is barely there, the controls are as janky as hell, and nothing is explained properly. And items appear to be interactive, but then it turns out that they're not. And it's very hard to distinguish passable terrain from non-passable. And the inventory system was designed in hell.
Not sure I'm going to bother continuing. Super-frustrating game with too many poor design choices. :(
It's a shame because I really want to like it.
