Any tips?
Okay so I just started and I'm confused at how to go at this game as it's different from any i've played before. I love the aspect of being a shop owner who runs dungeons at night to sell items an upgrade gear/town/shop to progress further.

I just wondered the best way to go about starting out? I've done a few runs and just sold everything to get the first two shops but now i'm gonna work on upgrading my gear and my own shop.

Does anyone have any tips on like progression points? As in when I should stop just grinding materials an upgrades and progress further?

What upgrades should I go for in my shop?

Is there any point in making both versions of the same weapon type or should I only focus on one upgrade path on each weapon I use?

I have finished the game twice, so I will give you the recommendations that will serve you from start to finish:

1. Always carry a stock of potions. Five as a minimum, if you can carry more, the better. Also get used to not selling slime remnants and creating cheaper potions.
2. Always select the next weapon branch you want in the wish list and do not make the mistake of selling the necessary resources to create it.
3. Sell everything. If you have already finished creating your desired weapon or armor, sell everything you find. With time you will notice that you do not manage to sell everything in the first place.
4. Always try to advance as far as you can in the dungeon. With the new update those mini bosses give good objects.
5. First concentrate on improving the armor and the weapon while collecting the resources. It will be easier to finish the dungeon and thus you will earn more money.
6. It is not necessary to take two branches of a weapon. I recommend that you stay in the same branch of the weapon and armor, unless you want to experiment with the mechanics of the game.
7. Weapons with elementary effects are left a little behind in the first cycle of the game, but in the new game +, with the introduction of pirate weapons, the weapons can maintain their elements without losing physical damage, which is cool.
8. Prioritize your weapons and armor and then improve your home or town. The most important thing is to improve the size of the store, improve the cash register for more profits and visit the NPC that sells decorations that help you increase even more the price of your items and other trifles. A good addition is the bed because it allows you to have some damage reduction at the beginning of the dungeon. The others, while useful, are not as important as the ones I mentioned.
9. Be careful with the banker. You can make more money by going to the dungeons, honestly.
10. Important: keep careful about your inventory and curses. If you pay attention to how you order the objects and the price of each, you can greatly improve the amount of money you make.
12. Do not sell the magic crystals. Use them to improve your weapons and armor.
13. Always try to deactivate the characters of the town immediately, except for the banker who is something dispensable.
14. Improve the chest of your house if you see that you start to be with little space. Keep a chest for the most useful objects (slimes, crystals or resources needed to create weapons and armor) and the rest for the objects to sell.
15. In summary: Get items, sell them and create equipment, upgrade them, finish the dungeon with the best possible equipment you can get. Repeat.

Do not forget to talk to the townspeople and relax. It is one of the most beautiful aspects of the game.

Wow thanks for the help! Even with advice I didnt think about.

One question is do potions have a cool down period? I healed on a boss an missed a dodge timing an couldnt heal again even though I had potions in my bag

If the potions are in your bag and not in your potion slot, I believe you can't use them during combat. You can spam potions as long as they're in your potion slot.
