Sale box (discount) - whats the point?
Why would i EVER sell stuff for 50% off (or even worse) in this game?
Is there any hidden mechanic or point to the sale box or is it as dumb and useless as i think it is?

Got something with no value? Or stuff you just want to get rid of? If thats the case, then the sale box is your best friend. Get rid of unwanted stuff and still earn some cash.

As you said "Whats the Point?"
If you have junk and you want to get rid off it, just use the mirror :)
I never used that Sale Box personally in my whole playthrough

why would i pay hughe amounts of money for a 50% sale box when its only purpose is to get rid of junk i'm not supposed to bring to town in the first place?

considering how little space you have in your inventory/bag and (as mentioned) the existence of the mirror it makes even less sense. like, you're already loosing money by having this trash instead of useful items and then you sell it for even less money? wut?

am i too german for this? please someone tell there is more to that thing o.O

i use the hell out of it, the mirror i use when im diving, but at the same time, sometimes i hold on to max stacks of garbage just to have incase i get a copy curse. that doesnt always happen, and instead of wasting my time clicking individual items and selling them for less than 50% i can take them back to shop, whole dump them and sell when i open.

sale box offers distinct advantages, I will explain them to you.

-selling an item in the sale box reveals its true value to you through observation and simple calculation.

-sale box is more profitable than the mirror after one upgrade, making the mirror very undesirable.

-sale box can clear inventory fast for items that fall out of popularity, if you made a mistake and stocked half a chest full.

-sale box can clear junk items kept on hand to quick-fill customer orders, if they begin taking up too much space

-sale box always sells, the items in your shop may not.

alright this can be useful - although very limited imo

-sale box is more profitable than the mirror after one upgrade, making the mirror very undesirable.

again, i never bring junk into town - it gets "mirrored" and (much) more valuable stuff gets picked up

-sale box can clear inventory fast for items that fall out of popularity, if you made a mistake and stocked half a chest full.

i just sell cheaper - and always get more than 50% afaik

-sale box can clear junk items kept on hand to quick-fill customer orders, if they begin taking up too much space

i dont even understand what you mean tbh

-sale box always sells, the items in your shop may not.

same here, i'm afraid i dont understand - sale box always sells? like, how?

thx for the answer but unless i somehow missed that you can send items to the sale box while "on mission" none of the stuff seems to justify spending 100.000 gold on the box itself and then selling items at 50% off - especially not since town portals are not free unless you wanna end the run

just give your junk to the assistant

Yes, the sales box has only situational use to a player once they've gotten very good at the game and figured out good prices for everything. However:

1) The sales box is more profitable than dropping items in the mirror.

2) Items taken from the sales box are 'extra' in that customers will just walk by the sales box and you'll get the money for the item they bought, without them having to bring it to the counter. You don't have to worry about them rejecting the price, and many customers will drop by the sales box before looking at items on a pedestal. This increases your throughput of items sold.

It's easy to bring home more items than you can sell in a day. Between the secret chests that you can load up with items to teleport back home, the curses that send items back home, and the mimic familiar, you can bring home more back per visit to the dungeons than you could ever hope to sell in a day (especially with the new Indecisive customers taking up time and space in your shop). The sales bin will help dramatically increase your throughput while getting you more money than the mirror would have had you not brought things home.

Whether this is all worth the investment in the sales box is up to you, but if you have things to put in it it'll pay itself off and turn a profit. It's not worthless.

That's valid, but then you have to go spend time fiddling with prices. The sales box is set it and forget it.

One of the ways to deal with the quests customers give you to retrieve a type of items from the dungeon for them, especially for items that only appear rarely (e.g. Blade Leaves or Tungsten Reel), is to keep a stockpile of them in the chests at the Moonlighter so that you can always have what you need without worrying about finding enough of them in the allotted timeframe. But if you start running out of space, the most profitable way to clear out some of your stock is with the sales bin instead of carrying things back into the dungeon to immediately drop in the mirror.

-sale box always sells, the items in your shop may not.

See my point 2) above

@HORIA: just give your junk to the assistant

This is often a fine strategy, but if you're looking to fulfill a request or pick up new ones you have to be in the shop that day. Plus if you're looking to clear space in your inventory but only a few of your items are of relatively small worth, then taking that 30% cut on the high value items hurts. Depending on your specific mix of items you want to sell, it can easily be that you'll get more by working the shop with the sales box than letting the assistant take her cut.

-------

This is all besides the use the sales box has to new players who aren't using cheaty ways like the sales box, the mirror, or Le Retailer to find the base value of an item. If you're trying to close in on the base price of a new item from a new, dangerous dungeon that you're having trouble surviving in, then the best and safest way to do it is to take what you can get out of the dungeon and then sell an item in stacks of 1 as you adjust the price to try to find base value. But there's not a lot of profit in selling that way, and if you don't have a bunch of money in your pocket to float your business' operating costs for a while, then a good way to still experiment with price and earn some cash is to go to the previous dungeon and take everything you get and dump it in the sales box. That way you still have an income, and customers aren't wasting their pedestal item purchases on things you already know the prices of, and thus you can keep your price adjustments in your head easily as you make several of them rapidly instead of only one or two in a day before you have to delve back into the dungeon.

i'm sorry but it appears to me that we are not playing the same game at all

basic math and forward-thinking invalidates all the sanwers so far, so please - unless you tell me about SECRET MECHANICS dont bother

Alright, bye troll
Drukaris Jul 27, 2019 @ 7:05am
i'm not a troll - its simple economics

i use the mirror on the least valueable stack to pick up a better one
empty slots is a big no no
but with a bit of inventory management via loot chests i get all the vauable stuff out of a dungeon
i use the catalyst only one time, usually in stage 3
at that point my bag is full with stuff you really don't wanna put on sale
stage 3 and the boss is another bag full of high profit loot

if i kept all the junk and semi junk to that point i wouldve needed to use the catalyst a second time and that is in most cases more expensive than what i wouldve earned for that stuff - even at full price

yes, rates with the mirror are atrocious BUT when you consider the cost of the catalyst and the price reduction of the salebox or you helper its almost always better to use the mirror

unless you making a million + a day anyway, but thats besides the point

I think it's best service is to know how much an item worth, I dunno if it may increase the popularity of that item so later you can sell it for more. But it's true, it's should have just a little explanation of what it is for... Assistant uh? hmmm, can I make some interviews and ask how much are they willing to get the job? sorry, was thinking out loud
