Aim off-center when in third person.
When in first person, shots (at least in semi-auto) go directly towards the center of your crosshair. But in third person, the crosshair is down a little, and shots go above the center dot. Absolutely unnacceptable for long range. The only time where this isn't a problem is with the Sniper class, as they use the same scope in first and third person, but trying to use a blaster rifle to take out a target at range is nearly impossible without going into first person.

I mean it's not that big a deal, since it's just a simple button push, but sometimes I'd like to stay in third person.

If youre playing in 1080p try changing your resolution to 1680x1050.

This. Sadly, the HD reticle is unfixable even with mods from my understanding. But if you play for a while, eventually you get used to it. I'd say stick it out for the higher resolution, but take your pick. Good luck!
