In Space Battle why do I keep losing?

I'm playing as the Rebels against the Empire and whenever I am in a space battle, its not hard to destroy the 5 targets on the Star Destroyer. However as soon as I destroy the last target the screen always says defeat and we lose! Are you not supposed to take out their cruiser, just kill as many TIE Fighters as you can in GC?

Your AI is probably dying a lot and your Frigates and or systems of your Mon Calamari Cruiser is getting destroyed, you need to keep an eye on your counter.

Also are you destroying the 2 Frigates next to the SD? Those give out quite a bit of points as well. Destroying systems inside helps too and destroying the shields inside makes getting to the systems on the outside faster.

I do tend to ignore the smaller cruisers, but my Frigate never loses all of its hit points. So the troop count matters above all else then huh?

Pretty much yeah, what I usually do is go after the Frigates at the start of the match, then I drive the Troop Transport into the hanger of the opposite team so that my AI can spawn in there so that it both disrupts the enemy from getting into their ships while helping out in distracting them so I can blow up the systems inside.

Then once I've blown everything including the shields inside I go out and destroy usually 1 or two systems which usually fills it up all the way or enough so that I just need to kill just a small handfull of enemy fighters.

Yea space battles tend to be harder than ground battles. My strategy to win is to first take out the extra frigate(s) with a bomber. Then go inside and take out their shield generator, then the other stuff inside. Then you go in space again with a bomber and take out their bridge and other things that are left.
