Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (Classic, 2005)

Game won't launch on Windows 11
I recently upgraded from Windows 10 to 11. The game worked fine on 10, but now, on Windows 11, it won't even launch. I press play button, Steam says launching and then the button says play again. I have disabled Discord Overlay, enabled stereo mix, checked for updates and drivers, as well as installing anakin's remaster mod, doing a clean install of the game without mods, updating DirectX, microsoft c++ redistributable and finally luanching the game with compatibility mode, whcih gave me a 0xc00007b error. I really don't know what to do at this point. I just wanna play the game. Please help.

The ONLY other thing I can think of is go into the game's _LVL_PC folder and look for a file called vidmode.ini and open it in notepad and just delete the entire contents, save, and then make the new empty vidmode.ini read-only so the game can't write a new file over it. I've known this file to cause problems on modern systems but very rarely. You can't just delete the file because the game will make a new one, so just make the file empty and lock it to read-only.

Well, I went to the lvl_pc folder and there was no vidmode.ini file. What do I do now? I deleted the files of the game and verified integrity to get the mback but still no vidmode.ini file. Please help.
Are you using AMD hardware? If so, try running the game with launch options:

-nosound

Battlefront 2 absolutely hates AMD hardware and 100% of all AMD systems I've used required me to run the game with -nosound or it didn't work at all.

That's it, I have no more ideas. Best of luck.

The vidmode.ini must be a disc version problem, I just forgot about it until now.

Sorry, but it didn't work too. Situation is kinda desperate at this point. I don't know what to do.
Downgrade to Windows 10 iot LTSC. It receives security updates through 2032 and less bloatware no one asked for. You can activate using free open source scripts off GitHub. The newest version I believe is 21H2 but as I said, it still receives security updates which is the only part that truly matters. Also, don't get the ISO from Microsoft because it's a trial image that will brick itself. You will need to find the full ISO elsewhere. Cheers and good luck.

Alternatively, install Linux Mint. I can confirm that Battlefront 2 works flawlessly through Proton.

Windows 10 support ends in October 2025. What do you mean 2032? The end of support is the whole reason I upgraded!

You didn't read what I wrote.

Support ends for Home and Pro in 2025.

Windows 10 iot LTSC 21H2 ends support in 2032.

Apps will still be working for a long time. I still have a Windows 7 laptop and Steam still works (some games don't work because of useless launchers).

Ok but still do you know any other methodbI could try or do you know anyone i could ask?
I don't have any more ideas or knowledge. I've never used Windows 11 and never will, BF2 not working being one of many reasons.

Damn, looks like I am out of luck. Thanks for the help though. If anyone else has a method to solve this, please let me know.

I have also tried Battlefront 2004 too and it doesn't launch as well. It says launching before going back to saying play after one or two seconds. Is there any other way I can fix this without rolling back to windows 10, reinstalling windows 11 or waiting for microsoft to release an update for games that use DirectX 9c, because apparently unreal tournament 2004 doesn't launch too but weirdly call of duty 4 launches alright. Please help!
hey, i have ut2004 and both 64bit and regular work on my windows 11 no probs. but my versions ARE disk, not steam

Ok, I managed to fix the problem. Usiing these links: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/4511002214528101438/ and also https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgamingtechsupport/s/wbRY6zhWjl you can potentionally solve your problem both on windows 10 and 11. Please, take your time to analyze what people say in those links and don't download with firat scanning for viruses. Some mark this is as the answer.
