Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (Classic, 2005)

Mod for removing special classes points requirement
Any mods that remove this feature so you can play as dark trooper/etc. from the start of a map?
For single player, not trying to do this online or anything.

Started playing this again recently due to all the EAfront hype. Which I don't buy into. I like buying games that are honest and complete products. BF2 is a great example of an older game with many features, none of which feel like they were held back for DLC like today's industry.

Of course I lost interest in DICE/EA after one day of the Battlefield 4 beta (demo.) So glad I didn't waste my time or invest in BF4 and Hardline. Yeckkk..

if u have a hex editor program (tons of free ones online, the one I use is called HxD) open the game file BattlefrontII.exe and press ctrl+f and choose "hex" data type and put in 63 24 4B 71 and press find, there should be only one instance of 63 24 4B 71 in the file, overwrite with 00 00 00 00, (overwrite, never backspace/delete data)save your changes to the file and play. u never have to pay for specials again, during regular maps or mod maps. online it wont work unless the host has the same mod. if u try this online u just spawn as the first character selection which is usually a soldier

Kind of a do-it-yourself mod? That's fine, I enjoy tinkering around with game files and getting little tricks like this to work :)

I already have a backup as I successfully added a mod already.

No worries about online. I seriously just got this for the single player because it's that good. Probably one of the best single player experiences in a shooter around. I just upgraded from playing on the PS2 so I'm really looking forward to finding all the extra content available with modding. Which the current industry disapproves of. How dare the customers enjoy increased longevity of their games with mods. But EAfront 1 this year, and pre-order EAfront 2 in 2016! SMH

Thank you Anthony, I will try this. I like to roleplay an entire galactic conquest run with one class. The experience suffers a bit due to the points requirement for specials. This will make the experience so much more enjoyable for me. Thank you again.

It's a do-it-yourself because there are not "mods" that do the same action, the method I posted above is removing the code parameter "PointsToUnlock" from the game file so when it's called in the .lvl files it doesn't match anything and becomes useless. I played ps2 for a long time as well and also I have no faith in EAFront either. I strongly think even the psp version of swbf2 is more entertaining than the new game.

Ok done. I believe it created the new BattlefrontII.exe.bak file. Which I had to overwrite as well. Just tested and it works! It even removes the max unit counter for the special classes I believe as the max counter has disappeared.

Thank you again Anthony!

Max counter is still there, if there are too many specials and you select it, you will get the soldier. the max counter is a visual side effect from points to unlock

Ok. I've never experienced this anyways in single player from what I remember. Honestly I've never even played multiplayer, but I imagine the effect is mostly found in MP for balance.

Now I just need to find a mod that adds more planets to galactic conquest :D

the first mod you should install is the "lightweight" v1.3 r129 patch. this mod alone is what enables advanced mods such as custom galactic conquest modes and custom game modes and tons of other stuff. everything for mod downloads and how to make tutorials are on gametoast.com this is the modding community

I can give u a custom edit u can make so fleets become free of cost, this makes the game use more fleets randomly, before it only uses a new fleet when u killed it's current fleet.

I got some weird glitch with a gun appearing near the crosshairs. Turns out I had to get that 1.3 unofficial patch and it fixed that issue. Everything is working great now!
