Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (Classic, 2005)

Star Wars Battlefront 2 in 2024.
Good evening everyone. Would any of you recommend this Star Wars game this year?

From what I've heard, the Classic Collection of the Star Wars Battlefront games has revealed itself to be a massive flop based on the countless reviews it received since its release in March....not to mention the frankly absurd price for two old-school games that apparently only got a fresh coat of paint for the most part.

The reason why I am specifically interested in Battlefront 2 only is because I am aware that in Battlefront 1 you are only able to play as Stormtroopers, Clones, Rebels and Imperial soldiers but not as any of the Jedi or Sith characters from the movies.

Plus, it would seem that Battlefront 2 has more maps as well as more content in general compared to Battlefront 1.

Lastly, I am also aware that the player count has dropped significantly ever since the release of the Classic Collection, though I suppose there are still people out there who refuse to let Battlefront 2 die.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions on this matter.

Classic collection runs great now but since everyone just let it die I guess you might as well save money and buy this……….

Hi. It's the opposite the player count for this game (2005 original that you are posting on the forum of now) has gone UP since classic collection released! Definitely worth buying this :)

Say, is there a chance that it will be on sale sometime this week? Because according to Steam DB (a website that allows people to keep track of the price history of various games sold on Steam) it was on sale on the 27th of April a year ago, and for quite a cheap price too.

Thing to know for online play is heros are turned off in populated servers for conquest. Servers for both team damage on and off. No crazy amount of ai in the rooms.

There is hero only servers if that's want want. Everything is community ran.

There is not a huge amount of players but you can almost always find a server with people to play with.

I got this game on CD - ROM over a decade ago and I still play it from time to time. Yeah it kicks ass. One of the best Star Wars games and best Star Wars shooters out there (and that's saying something. LucasArts has a long history of releasing amazing Star Wars shooters, from Dark Forces to Republic Commando.)

It's like if you took the Battlefield formula, added all the love of Star Wars into it (the good, pre-Disney Star Wars), added the ability to be jedi/sith, and fight in space--even boarding the enemy cruiser and destroy it from inside--it's just amazing. And that's just the base game. What took an amazing, timeless game and ascended it to LEGENDARY status is the dedicated, passionate modding community which persists to this day. This game has about as many mods for it as Skyrim, nearly as much as Doom. And the vast majority of them are high quality and worth experiencing.

Pandemic, the developers behind the game, later released Lord of the Rings: Conquest, which aimed to recreate the success of Battlefront for that series. It's a good game, but there was some special lightning in a bottle that was the first two Battlefront games, and even the excellent Conquest couldn't quite fully recapture that. That Battlefront magic will never die, and no matter how many times EA tries in vain to replicate it, they simply can't.

I'll say this, too. The games, even played totally vanilla without any mods, were always quite nice looking. Of course, you have to remember the context of when they released, but they look very nice on their own even without any mods, and with mods they look unbelievably good.

Many thanks for this highly insightful take on Star Wars: Battlefront 2. I'll definitely keep an eye on this game. Hopefully, it will soon be on sale.

Sadly it seems they are intentionally not putting the games on sale anymore because that would make the Classic Collection even more pointless than it already is. They are doing the same thing for that stupid Dark Forces remaster.

Sure thing! Whenever you do pick it up, you're in for a treat. Even the multiplayer is still played. It actually ended officially in 2014 when original server host GameSpy shut down, but GOG resurrected the online for both Battlefront 1 and 2 a few years back, around 2018 I want to say. Battlefront 1 is usually completely dead, but you can always find some people in the sequel, which was always more popular. In recent days, we've even had full servers of nearly 60 players going. Unfortunately, the server hosts tend to do no space maps and heroes turned off, which is a bummer, but the fact that the game is still so populated for its age says something.

We didn't just "let it die", they released a sh‎it unfinished Remaster of the game for quick profit. They deserve to crash.

It certainly does. Granted, most people these days seem to still play EA's Star Wars Battlefront 2, but honestly I suspect that the game-play experience is going to be anything but pleasant....as I have been doing research on EA's attempt at recapturing the magic of Pandemic Studio's Star Wars Battlefront 2 game, and it turns out they failed mostly at that, due to micro-transactions galore, an uninspiring single-player campaign, and a game-play system that actually encourages people to gamble.

I'd rather settle for an older yet far more enjoyable video game where you won't have to spend a dime in order to have a good time.
