Go to Discord settings - game overlay- disable in-game overlay

Try turning off Steam Overlay

I was having the same issue. I did a few things. One, setting the affinity to just two cores in the task manager. Two, running the game in compatibility mode for XP S2. Got the game running fine.

Instantly fixed! For the new comers, you can disable it under the Activity Settings tab in settings, specifically labeled Game Overlay

Disabling the Discord Overlay, as well as the Steam Overlay, worked perfectly for me. I can re-live the glory days of Conquering the Galaxy. Lol

The fact its discord overlay itself.. not steam or any others.
