Install it to the GameData path, then let me know if you have any luck.

I'm having the same issue. Tried installing to GameData path AND tried installing to "addon" folder inside the GameData folder, got the same "folder name invalid" error every time.

Go here and click CTRL F and search for 1.3 patch

I added a video tutorial there.

Also, make sure the 1.3 patch is this one: http://www.moddb.com/games/star-wars-battlefront-ii/downloads/unofficial-v13-patch-r129

Hey, Im having problems getting the patch to work as well, just says "invalid name" on any and every folder that Ive tried to install it at, Ive read through many guides and watched videos including yours, but it doesnt seem like you got that same issue at all, you just "next-ed" your way through everything. As did everyone else who posted guides
Does it matter what disk you have your game downloaded at?

This is how it looks for me "D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Star Wars Battlefront II\etc."
Does this affect anything? do i have to have it in disk c?

I can download the patch to the "default" place that it gives me which is "c:\Program Files\Star Wars Battlefront II"
But that cant be right? and I dont get any fancy menus even if I keep the v1.2 hud on, Ive tried everything and at this point Im desperate, and I found you as the most recent person to help about this, every other post is at least 1 year old

Make sure you remove any slashes or periods at the very end of the file path

This worked for me for adding it to my addon folder.
