Game works fine with controllers. I've used wired xbox 360 and now use a wireless Xbox One controller without a problem, you just have to manually map the buttons and axis in options.

Some claim, that those who recently bought the game since MP was released the 360 controller works without any setup. I have not tested uninstalling and doing a clean install but others have suggested this.
Mapping a controller takes about 20 minuts to do properly.

You have to map the buttons manually, which I have done on multiple occasions. It may be a little irritating to some, but I actually like that level of control over my game.

I use a wireless PS4 controller and it works quite well, the only issue is you cant use the controller to navigate the menus, even selecting units or spawn point. But actually controlling the character and playing works.

My controller is connected but it will not let me bind my controls. It is an xbox one controller.

You have to use a program called xpadder to bind your keyboard and mouse to your controller.
