Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (Classic, 2005)

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (Classic, 2005)

Why is this considered better than BF1 2004?
Bells and whistles like space battles and playing as a Jedi/Sith don't matter when the maps are inferior and the gunplay is a complete downgrade when compared to BF1.

I haven't played battlefront 1 for years but it sounds nice. I like battlefront 2's version of galactic conquest better though as it has more features and you can choose which planet to attack rather than the game giving you 2-3 planets to choose to attack each round. They also let you purchase units and build up your armies. I also thought the faction endings where a really nice touch. I like battlefront 1's conquest but I think 2 improved and made it better.

Yeah. I still prefer Battlefront 2's version of galactic conquest as well. I just miss that specific feature from the first Battlefront's galactic conquest?

Did you ever play Battlefront Renegade Squadron or Elite Squadron? I don't know too much about the latter, but the former had a really cool version of Galactic Conquest that made me always wish that Renegade Squadron got a proper PC release (outside of using emulators). Basically in Renegade Squadron Galactic Conquest, you could move individual troops between captured and enemy planets. This would signify your reinforcement count during battles. You also had 16 planets in total. Also, planets were organized into sectors and capturing an entire sector granted bonuses including access to special heroes that only affected the galactic conquest map. For example, I think if you captured the sector containing Mon Mothma, you'd get a bonus to income or troop counts. It was really cool! Unfortunately, space battles weren't possible, but just imagine a system like that with fleet movement and space battles.

I weep for what Battlefront 3 could have been.

I've heard of the battlefront spinoffs before. Didn't know they had a galactic conquest mode. I don't know why they neglected to release them renegade or rogue squadron on PC. I guess its because the spin-offs weren't as popular as the numerical releases. It's pretty sad that they didn't include any galactic conquest mode in battlefront 2 2017. I guess EA thought that since it was only single player it wasn't worth bringing back.

Battlefront 3 was actually in development by free radical design in 2006-2008. The game was cancelled after the company failed to meet deadlines. Even if the game wasn't that good, it would still be interesting to see how the game turned out after all. Here's more info on the cancelled third game: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/former-lucasarts-employee-on-why-star-wars-battlefront-iii-failed/1100-6400936/

It's a shame we never got a proper sequel to the original battlefronts.

Yeah a beta copy of the original Battlefront 3 has been leaked before too, but I have no idea where to find a copy.

This is the closest that exists to the original Battlefront 3:

I didn't know there were beta copies circulating around. It would be wild if I could get a hold of one of them. Even if they exist, I doubt you could get a copy, most of the beta copies are probably lost anyway or something like that.

Elite Squad was good I played a ton of that loved that space + ground were the same maps and the capital ships could bombard planets.

Wasn't it only available on the psp?

Yep, but you could use an emulator to play it on PC. I can't post where to find them, but they are easy to find.

Is it just me or was the "flow" (not sure what to call it) of battles better in the first one, too? In BF1, the battles were really fun because there were certain points on maps where both armies got into massive shootouts and you really had to push in order to win. In BF2, everybody spawns everywhere and you'll find yourself losing command posts you literally just captured.

Yeah, I always found BF1 typically would have huge firefights, whereas BF2 there's a bunch of tiny fights happening all around the map.

Biggest thing I missed from BF1 were the fighters on ground maps and the bombardment recon droid ability. Both of those were super fun to me.

Do any of you guys know a way to transfer the files for the recon droids from game 1 into the 2nd game files? I ask because I prefer how each team's recon droid was unique in game 1. How can I make that apply to game 2 without somehow remastering the whole game on my own, which I definitely can't do yet? Is there a mod for recon droids? Please help!!

I don't know how to create my own mods, but I do know that some mods exist that re-add the bombardment ability in some fashion. Pretty sure Battlefront Extreme does and I know that Battlefront Saga Edition does as well.

You can always pickup the total conversion mod as well that fully adds in BF1 into BF2 so you can choose either's maps (with all the old classes as well including that bombardment recon). Recently that mod also added KOTOR into it.
