Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (Classic, 2005)

Game Runs Like Garbage
I start a level and then the game goes to like 3-20 FPS like 5 minutes after starting a single player match. Why? It is like a 15 year old game. Do I need to run this thing in compatibility mode or something?

I have Windows 10
RAM: 16 GB
CPU: Intel i7 7th gen 7700HQ 2.8GHz
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060

I mean, yeah, I get that Star Wars: Battlefront II is an old game but I thought the whole point of having the game on Steam was to be able to play it on any device that can run Steam.

Try these potential fixes:
  1. Set CPU affinity (see PCGamingWiki[www.pcgamingwiki.com]):

    • Set CPU core affinity to resolve game crashes[www.pcgamingwiki.com]
      • Set CPU core affinity
      1. Open Task Manager and go to Battlefront's executable.
      2. Set Affinity to use only one or two cores to improve overall stability.

See this post for more detailed step-by-step instructions on how to do this.

  2. Try the steps in the "Fixing the crash at startup" section of this guide below; though it is for resolving crashes primarily, can resolve performance issues as well:

  3. Definitely make sure your video drivers are up-to-date too:

Yeah I mean I don’t even have a gaming computer and mine runs it great.

Come now Hatsune Miku. We expect someone of your digital background to understand that digital applications almost never run without some sort of unexpected hiccup. There is no need for bullying our esteemed game by calling its performance garbage.

I have done all of that and the game performs the exact same. I honestly don't get it. Like, I try the first mission in the campaign and it runs fine for like 5 seconds and then the FPS drops to like 7-15.

Messed with CPU affinity. No help.
Downloaded the latest patch. No help.
Made sure GPU and all other drivers were up to date. No help.
Looked at sound drivers. No help.

*Shrugs* What else do you suggest?

Fabulous and superior battlefront EA II runs far better than this relic.
