Graphical and Freezing Issues
I have been playing this game for a while, and gotten through the campaign already. I love it and wanted to play it some more. yesterday it worked alright, except that the ground textures and some other textures were screwed up to no end, geonosis was varying flat colors, various parts being black, the ground being solid green at one point only shown different by textures. along with some red and orange parts on it. Then you get to today, I get on today and as it had been doing yesterday the game provided a random "directx install, first time setup" thing for my game when I got on, I figured nothing much. But now, I can't even get into a battle, every time I try to open a battle, load a save on galactic conquest, or even do an instant action battle the game suddenly begins to act wierd and freezes. When I load a save from conquest, the game stays in full screen and freezes up before it can get to the load screen, as if it was caught during the transition to it. If I try instant action or a battle in a NEW galactic conquest game, the game suddenly shrinks into a quarter of my screen, showing my desktop behind, then freezes, forcing me to shut it down via the task master program. i have windows 10 and I don't know what the hell is going on, it worked for me earlier with windows 10, so I don't know why it would suddenly stop working now. (i did the campaign when I still had 10)

I just got the game recently and it did a directX install. I have not even been able to play the game as of yet for more than 5 minutes at a time because it freezes. I actually got to the point I could control the character a couple times for the training mission, but the textures were all weird flat colors. Like bright green-screen green, red and yellow. Couldn't even tell where I was going.

Exactly what I had the problem with, great. Hopefully someone can fix it.
I don't exactly know how to help with the freezing, but perhaps you could try some crash fixes that maybe could help

but first, heres the graphics fixes:

and here are the crash fixes:

for Windows 10:

set resolution to MAX and make sure anti-aliasing is off

other things you can try:

if you have a black screen, try this: http://prntscr.com/8288sp -http://oi65.tinypic.com/33m0x3d.jpg (screenshot)

enable stereo mix

How to Enable Stereo Mix:
Start > Control Panel > Sound > Recording tab > If you don't see Stereo Mix, right click and select Show Disabled Devices > Enable Stereo Mix
(If you still don't see Stereo Mix, try to plug in a mic and enable it)

https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+enable+stereo+mix&client=aff-maxthon-maxthon4&channel=t28&gws_rd=ssl

if plugging in a mic or headphones into the mic port does not make Stereo Mix show up, try downloading:

run as admin;
go to right click on the entire SWBF2 folder (located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common) and going to:
Properties > Security > Edit > Choose your User > give it full permissions by clicking the Allow on everything there > Apply. > Advanced > Add Permissions if you like > at the top change OWNER to your main User. > hit Apply. > then go back to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common > click SWBF2 > GameData > right click on SWBF2 > at the top it should say Run as Administrator, try to run it that way, if that doesn't help, right click again > go to Properties > Compatibility > Run the program in Compatibility Mode. In Security make sure you have admin rights there also, simply go to security and check. click Edit to change Permissions, click Advanced to change Owner and more Permissions just like before with the SWBF2 folder.

delete vidmode

(vidmode is located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData\DATA\_LVL_PC )

plug something into microphone port

if your game only crashes on a certain map, go to: Library > right click SWBF2 > Properties > Local Files > Verify Game Cache
(this removes mods, etc btw if you have any)

if your game crashes on a modded map/etc uninstall it and reinstall.

Tell me if anything helps, and I'm sorry I can't be much help.

Enabled stereo mix, set "vidmode" to hidden, resolution is already max with no anti-aliasing. I got the same. The game made a different res screen in order to play the game from, the small screen went black with a little thing on the side. then the big screen was black and my mouse and everything was frozen.

The black textures is a glitch that can occur after playing the game nonstop for a while. Try restarting the mission/level from the pause menu, it works for me. Also, if black textures appear on a mod map, it appears to be a placeholder for missing textures.

Restarting from the pause menu? I can't even get into the game to pause, it freezes and the windows go completely black, no music or anything. As if it froze transitioning into the loading screen or something. I don't know.

My advice is for fixing the textures. Also, I've read elsewhere on these forums is that the LSD textures glitch is related to AMD's Crimson graphics drivers. If you're running it on Windows 10, I had to enable Compatibility Mode for Windows 7 and Run as Administrator.
Merpkiller Jan 9, 2017 @ 11:29am
Well thank you, I will keep that in mind when I get to textures. I appreciate it.
Merpkiller Jan 14, 2017 @ 8:18am
This game is still not working, even on compatibility mode and run as admin.
Merpkiller Jan 14, 2017 @ 8:21am
Well, found how to fix, I had to lower the compatibility all the way back to windows xp service pack 3.
Merpkiller Jan 14, 2017 @ 5:00pm
Now the broken textures are still the problem, I'm on comp mode for windows xp serviice pack 3, and it isn't working.
Any other tips?

Alright, that worked, thank you! Now how do I fix steam overlay? It won't show anymore since I did a few advanced launch options to window and fullscreen the game, and switched it to xp service package 3.
