Can I somehow activate my retail copy on Steam?
Title says it all. I bought the boxed version of BF2 many many years ago and I wanna get it onto Steam. Any way to do that without rebuying it? (yes, I know it's on sale for 2,50€ but shush!)

contact steam support and give em your cd-key and ask em to convert it to a steam key

You can't. Those two keys are not compatible and Steam likely doesn't care if you've bought it, unless you bought it from them

Well, I'm trying it anyways and if they decline, I'll just buy it in the current sale

I'm not that poor and money isn't the topic here. I was just wondering if transferring a retail version of a game on Steam is possible.

Ah, ok. Sorry If I came across as prick or anything. But yes, to answer your question, you cannot transfer your physical disc version to Steam due to DRM and and copyrighting issues.

For some games this works, but Battlefront 2 isn't one of them. If you google it, there is a list of ones that allow it.

That's the answer I've seen over and over again in forums regarding the "retail games on Steam" topic. And I guess this thread is nothing special either. But I've never actually heard of anyone contacting the support about this so I'm looking forward to their response, even if it's probably negative.
It's not possible. All you can do is add the game as a Non-Steam game to have it in your Steam library.
