At this time dedicated servers are not planned, and it's unsure if they ever will be. I'm not Nils (developer), so I'm not speaking on behalf, but I for one would not want to segregate the community into subscription service with dedicated servers and the "normal" users who don't pay. That will lead to a whole lot more trouble down the road.
The sentiment of donating and helping to fund the game is very thoughtful. Personally, I'd like something that simply allows us to donate/subscribe to help fund the game in general, but nothing like paying for exclusive servers to only part of the community.
Sure, you could just hop out of a game if a troll gets admin in the current setup, but then you'd have to start a new one and bring all your friends over which is kinda disruptive.
I suggest this as I have a small community of over the current 10 player limit that wants to do more serious role-playing. But that can get hung up with a player limitation and the title being hosted by either just myself or one of our community admins.
So the idea of being able to have a slightly larger group (let's say 34?) on an exterior hosted server sounds both doable and worth the effort if that funding for it gets diverted into the development teams creative outlet for updates. For example, Conan Exiles does this, they allow for other companies to host servers but they also have a company within themselves that offers official hosting. All that currency is shuttled right back into the game to assist with development.
Which I think would work here in this titles communities. There's enough people playing it who I can see wanting this feature. What do you all think?
