Who is the game for?
Hello hackers!

Just wondering who this game is for. It looks extremely realistic, which normally I would consider to be great. However, if a hacking game is this realistic, who are the target audience? It is probably too technical for 95% of the gaming community, and those who do find this stuff enjoyable would be better served by installing Kali on vmware player/virtualbox or having a Kali Linux Live thumb drive they can take anywhere. You can join HackTheBox and "play" their challenges to your hearts content, getting cash rewards and learning more real world skills than this game can teach. Doing it that way also leads on to real-world, life-changing things like getting a new job in an IT Security field, and trains you for courses like PWK/OSCP.

If this stuff is an entertaining way to spend your time, I just don't know why you waste it playing a game when you could be furthering your career. Unless there is a story. If there is a nice story, then I see the point but the blurb on the game lead me to believe it was more of a hacking sandbox.

I personally believe this game is for people who enjoy the concept of a hacking game like Uplink but with more depth / effort required. If you want another "press x to hack" game then go play Uplink or Watch Dogs. I wouldn't say that this game is realistic or technical. It's a very basic scripting language that's similar to languages I was mucking about in when I was 12. Instead of press x to hack or type hack in a console, it's just type hack into a script and run the script. In the end though, this is a game. Telling people who want to play a hacking game with scripting to go ♥♥♥♥ about on linux and learn some real hacking is like saying people should stop playing GTA and go steal a real car. It's a damn game. The dev enjoys making it and the few people who still play enjoy playing it. As for your last paragraph, again, it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. You're obviously on steam so why are you playing games instead of furthering your career??? Hmmm??

Dude (or dudess?), Whoa, calm down...

Absolutely no need for all that vulgar swearing. I expressed an opinion, in a non-aggressive fashion; no need to get so defensive. You must be extremely thin-skinned and insecure if you take what I said as an attack on the game, the dev, yourself, or anybody else for that matter. It wasn't any of those things, just a question with provided context.

And actually, if you check my steam library (or my post on the bugs board a little while ago, you'll see that I have now purchased the game. After a little bit more research, I thought the game looked fun so decided to go ahead. Great price too!

Can we all be friends and not swear at each other?

Can't check your steam library because you have it hidden. Can't expect people to see what's not there. :p Good on you for getting the game either way.

As for the language, you must really be extremely thin-skinned and insecure if a couple curse words freak you out. My current office is smack dab in the middle of a warehouse and it's the only language spoken here.

As for your "question", it was an extremely broad question that you then moonlighted with statements, not context.

Literally all you did was rant about why people would play a game instead of furthering a career in the field the game is about. I admit I got overly aggressive and sarcastic at the end of my last post but it's hard not to point out the idiosyncrasy when people essentially say "Why should I play Factorio when I get can a masters in electrical engineering?"

Oops! Didn't check my privacy settings!

Yeah ok. I see your point. I just thought that the game looked so realistic that it would basically be a pentesting job playing it! Since posting the question, I've done a little more research and found out it's not quite "that" realistic. So maybe I should have done my research **before** posting my question.

When it comes to language, I'm not overly sensitive but the "f" word is normally only ever used when you're arguing with someone and you strongly disagree with their point of view, unless you work in a coal mine or something, in which case it's in every other sentence!

Anyway, you did actually answer my questions at the start of your first post so thanks for that.
