whois not working

so the whois command seems to not want to work for some reason out of the blue

Hi, can you detail the problem you have with whois command? the terminal output says "no info" or you get any error?

literally nothing happens, a new line appears with my username and computer name after hitting enter

no, and actually opening a new terminal window fixes it, at least for an IP in a new job, so I guess I can't tell if it was a bug with the terminal window or the IP for that specific job.
