Is the game really as bad as what the reviews say?

This game has a lot of really good ideas and with just a little bit more, could have been something really good. The thing that really killed it for me is that there is no map variety, there's effectively four or five maps. Also each character has three lines of dialouge which gets repetitive after a 30 hour game.

It also feels like they tried to smash xcom and civ together. Parts of it work out well, but it almost feels like a square peg in a round hole.

I haven't actually checked but If this is multiplayer, competitive could be fun.

We're working on phasing in mods later this year so keep your eyes peeled. :)

The game was built from the ground up with single player in mind, I know a lot of folks would really like to play multiplayer but sadly it's not something the game can support at this time.

It's enjoyable but the combat can be super annoying, you will miss point blank shots with shot guns while the AI pulls off a pistol shot with you in heavy cover from 80m away.

The combat difficulty is basically just a RNG bias towards the AI not a smarter AI.

No. I don’t think so. Just started playing, but looks promising.

It looks like, the problem is that (for some reason) people compare the game with X-com. I do not know why. The game was not intended to be X-com. And in general, it is not much like it atall.

It is difficult to describe the genre of the game. It combines elements of an economic simulator, tactical combat, and character stories.

The closest I can remember... This is a "syndicate" created by Bullfrog Studios in 1993 (but there was a cyberpunk style).

Thats an insult to syndicate. Which is over 30 years older btw.

My copy currently wont even load. And I far exceed requirement. So yeah, it's as sloppy as you might have heard.

Exactly. It's like--the worst of the worst. The design is VERY shallow, repetitive, and the relationship system is just weird. There needs to be a toggle to keep my all-male teams from falling in-love--honestly, this isn't the game that was advertised. This would be bad for mobile game standards never mind for a PC game published by PARADOX of all places.

The relationships system makes sense if you ever played Jagged Alliance 1/2. The best game ever made in my opinion. It also happens that the designer of this game was involved in that one.

Well I thought Syndicate was the most overrated game at that time. Yet another one of Moleyneuxs empty promises. If you think this is the most boring game you ever played, welcome to the gaming hobby :D. Unlike most of that salesmans games, Doom has stuck around ;).

I can really recommend this channel. Has tons of tips and guides.

considering that Syndicate was over 30 years old and had more different style missions and more customization options, Id say that Syndicate was a far better title than this one. Do I need to repeat that I would rather play Syndicate, which is 30 years older? 30 YEARS!!!!

Fire up DosBox and you are good to go. Personally I'd go with Ascent if I wanted some mindless clickfest.

Meanwhile I can't wait to see what they come up with for the future here.

yes the game is bad and it will always be bad, because the turn based combat is super boring and repetitive.
Alexander Aug 14, 2021 @ 12:26pm
The release was bad,but its updated and perfectly playable now, love the fights and its much more challenging then before. its fun!
And overall its a beautifull looking game and it can only get better.

Yeah when about 200 posts talked about turn based combat it must have been a huge surprise to find out, it had turn based combat :). Btw, they can be skipped now. Not that I would ever do that. Love seeing those gut shots. Urban Strife which comes out soon will be the next up for us JA2 lovers.

Only way to do this type of combat and keep it a strategy game.

too much xcom not enough gangsters buisness depth?
Hovis Aug 16, 2021 @ 6:24am
It's not that the business lacks depth so much as it lacks focus. There appears to be an update on the way that allows you to create a better sense of collected territory and that should be a substantial improvement.

This but even worse on release. XCOM part was easy to break with dynamite. How the "combat guy" never encountered this eludes me as every safehouse fight came down to placing dynamite throws then mopping up the rest
